I am working on my second PhD in Anthrozoology while building the foundations of a new career – either as an academic, educator, or within a non-profit organisation dedicated to improving the lives of both human and non-human animals. I am the first member of my family to attend university, after initially leaving high school at 16 with no qualifications. I returned to education in my mid-twenties and have completed several degrees while working full-time.

I believe in coaching a student on how to learn and think critically and empowering them to succeed. I also encourage self-reflexivity as a tool to learn from feedback given on assignments or exam performances. These are transferable skills that can be used within and beyond academic pursuits. I encourage tutoring sessions to be student-led and based on a balance between focusing on concepts the student is most struggling with, combined with course material they find most interesting.

Experience: I worked as a scientist for almost 20 yrs (plant molecular biology), during which time I was actively involved in outreach programs that engaged with middle and high schools in the US and UK. I have over 15yrs experience supervising students in the lab and mentoring individuals and small groups. I have worked and studied in the US, the UK, and Germany.
