Information about Caroline

I am currently unavailable as teaching overseas.

I am a qualified and experienced Specialist teacher who has recently returned from working internationally. I have 26 years experience in teaching young people with learning needs. Although I am from the North originally, I took up my first teaching post in Suffolk and remained here until 2013 when I took an overseas teaching position to Lead the Learning Support department and set up a dyslexia centre.

Since my return on 9th July, I have been assessing and teaching Primary children one to one in English and Maths. I enjoy this work very much as I am passionate about education and it really matters to me that children are able to make those steps forward. Some children I work with make accelerated progress and a term is often enough. Some children need a longer amount of time and commitment due to their specific learning needs.

I am aware it is often difficult to get the support you need from school and due to my County Advisory Teacher experience, I can support you to understand school procedures and who to go to, to meet, discuss and secure the support your child needs.

My History
I have been the Head of many Learning Support Departments and worked directly with young people who are struggling acquiring English or who have a specific learning difficulty. I joined the County Advisory Service and supported schools pre and post Ofsted where SEND was identified as an area of development. I have worked strategically across county and understand the whole process.
I am a qualified Specialist Teacher which means I can assess and diagnose SpLD (Dyslexia) and this work has taken me overseas where I have specialised in identifying young learners with speak English as their second language who are struggling to acquire English.

I am able available to teach young people who are needing guidance and support, a boost in their English or Maths and can assess and diagnose specific learning needs providing a full diagnostic report for parents and the school. I can then fill in Form 8 applications to apply for exam dispensation with this report.

Previous to this I worked as a Specialist Dyslexia Tutor and Assessor at the Manchester College. I assessed students with potential Dyslexia and other specific learning difficulties and gave recommendations to the tutors to ensure their full inclusion. I am also involved in working with young adults new to the country and supporting their acquisition in literacy skills.

I started off my teaching career as a Primary School Teacher and very quickly went into Special Needs where I worked as a SENCo and Head of the Inclusion Department in a large High School. I then became an Advisory Teacher responsible for monitoring the provision for young people with additional needs.

At this time I also worked for the School Improvement Service, trained as an Ofsted Inspector and supported schools to develop strategies to teach children with additional needs.

My skills are in assessment and identification of need and designing and delivering intervention programmes which will help reading, writing and spelling. I have been successful in helping young people increase their ability levels by at least 2 years in 1 term. I can also teach children currently in a Special School placement.

I am passionate about education and supporting young people achieve their potential. I am very supportive and kind and will go the extra mile to help you.

I keep my charges as low as possible and will make all the resources your child needs. I am willing to travel up to 10 miles away from my home but after this I will need to increase my charges to cover the petrol costs.

For Primary children I charge £30 (up to 10 miles away) £35 (up to 15 miles away) £40 (up to 20 miles away)
For Secondary students I charge £35 (up to 10 miles away) £40 (up to 15 miles away £45 (up to 20 miles away).

We booked Caroline to tutor our 11 year old daughter who is in year six at school. As a result of the school disruption due to the pandemic, we realised that our daughter was struggling with maths and she needed some one to one tutoring. Caroline has really helped her to understand the areas in mathematics that she was struggling with, and she is much happier going to school as a result. Thank you Caroline!
