Information about Oscar

Friendly and professional Maths and Physics tutor, with experience teaching in schools and one to one.

I can help students who are struggling with Maths and Physics at all levels. I often find that students who would definitely not say that Physics and Maths are their favourite subject begin to enjoy it a lot more when they are taken through the problem solving process at a pace that suits them, something that schools often do not have the resources to do.

Through my time studying Physics at the University of Manchester I developed a range of analytical skills which I communicate to my students, allowing them to learn independently and break up any challenging questions into manageable chunks. My specialty lies in helping students who have lost self-belief in Maths and Physics regain their confidence and find the fun in the subject!

Please get in touch any time, I look forward to hearing from you!

Availability: I am available Monday to Friday 9am -9pm.

Willing to travel: 10 miles

Experience: Total Experience to date: I estimate I have delivered around 2000 hours of 1:1 and small group tuition since 2015. I have been a full time tutor since graduating from the University of Manchester in 2020, averaging around 20 hours a week of both online and in person tuition. I have taught Mathematics and Physics extensively, as well as preparing many students for Grammar School and University Entrance exams.

School experience: I have worked in over 20 schools in Greater Manchester as part of the Tutor Trust, an educational charity which aims to help tackle educational inequality. As part of this work I helped students with a wide range of predicted grades achieve their full potential, many of whom could not afford private tuition.

What I teach: I have taught students taking GCSE/IGCSE, A Level, Pre-U and grammar school exams. During my time as a tutor, I have covered all of the major exam boards for A level and GCSE, including AQA, OCR A&B, Edexcel and WJEC/EDUQAS. I can tutor for any exam board and any syllabus. I also assist with UCAS applications, personal staments, entrance exams and any other challenges that a student might enter for e.g. PAT,ENGAA or Mathematics challenges.

Case Study: A student preparing for his AS Maths, Further Maths and Physics exams began his lessons just after the Christmas break. His latest mock examinations showed a B in Further Maths and C in Physics. After tutoring, he achieved an A* in Maths and an A in Physics, going on to read Physics at the University of Manchester.

Case Study: A GCSE student came to me a month before her maths exam asking me if I could help improve her grade from a predicted C. I identified key problem areas in her understanding and helped her perfect her exam technique through doing many past papers. She achieved an A* in Maths and was accepted to her first choice sixth form college.

Case Study: I helped prepare a very bright student for the Manchester Grammar School entrance exam over a 6 month period. This involved working on his exam technique as well as his analytical skills, as part of the entrance test involves a day of problem solving activities in the school. The student was accepted to the School with a full bursary.

Many of my previous students have been struggling with maths due to a lack of experience with the building blocks of the subject;; times tables and mental arithmetic. I often find that students who are lacking in confidence in Maths and Physics respond very well to my tutoring approach of breaking down complex problems into simple steps, and begin to enjoy the subject a lot more after a few sessions. Other students have been re-sitting multiple examinations. I have provided last minute help to students who are weeks away from their exam.

Oscar is a great tutor and really put my son at ease and help him relax into the lessons quickly, which was great because my son had never had a tutor before. Communication with Oscar is easy and reliable and he is very professional. I can heartily recommend Oscar as a tutor.
