Hello, I’m Lena! I am a medical student, and I am eager to help students achieve their academic goals. I offer tutoring in Biology, Chemistry and Physics up to and including A-level and Mathematics up to and including AS-Level. I have experience teaching students for GCSE and A-Levels in all the sciences and maths as well as providing advice on progressing to university/college.


Why choose me as a tutor?

I thoroughly enjoy the sciences and maths and I especially love being able to teach and explain tricky concepts and ideas. I try to make learning as easy as possible and as enjoyable because I am a heavy believer of prioritising mental well-being whilst working hard because it is much better for the long run! I have worked very hard to get into medical school and that involved finding ways to understand complex topics and memorising mass amounts of content, so I am ready to share all my tips and tricks that got me A.As (whilst balancing my work experience and volunteering)!

I am a hardworking and determined individual, so you can trust me to be very dedicated to helping the students achieve their target grades. I am ready and eager to help my tutees progress into their chosen college/university and be able to study the subjects/course they want to. I hope I can establish a good relationship with my tutee, so we can really focus on improving their study skills and see what else they need to do for their future career prospects.

Through my experiences, I have learnt how to approach and work with different people. Having a personalised approach is essential to help the tutee address any difficulties they have. My tutoring experience has also allowed me to develop my ability to identify any strengths and weaknesses and pinpoint areas that need work on. As students can have different barriers in their learning, I am here to identify them and help them find ways to overcome these barriers, so they can gain independence and confidence in their studies.

General idea of my teaching approach

My teaching approach would include firstly going through the appropriate specification/syllabus and seeing how the tutee feels about each topic and then going through the topics starting with the ones the tutee finds most difficult and then working down to the topics that the tutee is more comfortable with. A key element for this to work is spaced repetition so once we move on from a topic I will continue to test and maintain the already acquired knowledge. I can also help them arrange a timetable for their studying to help organise their time.

Experience: I have tutored GCSE students in mathematics through my college, I have also tutored year 12 students in both AS biology and AS chemistry. Both roles required me to:
• Explain complicated ideas by adjusting my teaching techniques to fit different tutees
• Discover strengths and weakness of my tutees and improving their abilities accordingly
• Plan and organise sessions
• Support students with their studies and help them progress to higher education
