Information about Jack

I’m a musician, postgraduate, and passionate educator looking for new students in the Bloxwich area with whom to share my skills and knowledge.

As a young teen I became obsessed with the guitar. Since my school only provided lessons in classical guitar, I took those whilst teaching myself to play other styles. By 16 I was performing in classical, rock and jazz concerts, and had a highly successful academic career in the meantime.

My passion for educating others began with teaching guitar to classmates whilst I was still a teenager. After achieving my Masters’ Degree, I took up educating professionally through both private tutoring and teaching community college classes in Essex. I became a member of the Registry of Guitar Tutors in 2016 and achieved a Level 3 Award in Education & Training in 2019.

As such I teach acoustic, classical, and electric guitar across many styles and to all levels. I also tutor academic music (i.e. GCSE, IB and A-level Music), composition, music appreciation, music history, music production/technology, music theory, and musicology.

Though music is my subject of greatest expertise, I’m also highly knowledgeable in English Literature. I’m adept at helping students get to grips with poetry and Shakespeare`s works, especially in terms of structure, symbolism, and archaic language.

As an MSc I can also tutor Maths up to GCSE level, as well as Media Studies. This has proved very useful for students who I tutored for both Media Studies and English, as much of the subject content for the former reinforces knowledge and skills present in the English GCSE curriculum.

I take a learner-centric approach across all subjects, crafting materials to compliment the curriculum whilst better engaging students` personal needs and interests.

Whether you`re looking for a friendly and highly knowledgeable guide to your guitar journey, or someone to help your child prepare for their daunting English exams, I look forward to hearing from you!

Availability: I currently have availability across most weekday mornings, some weekday afternoons and early evenings, and Saturday. Please contact me for more information.

Willing to travel: 10 miles

Experience: I`ve now been teaching and tutoring music subjects for a decade, and English and other school subjects for 5 years. I have experience of teaching primary and secondary school children, 6th form students, university applicants, and adult learners. I`ve put guitar students through classical and contemporary graded exams offered by various awarding bodies (ABRSM, Trinity, RGT/LCM).

Having tutored across age-groups, subjects, and syllabi, I am familiar with the variances in approach needed when engaging with different types of learners, as well as the common challenges and worries facing young students. I`ve helped many schoolchildren succeed in their GCSEs and A-level, and I`ve put guitar students through classical and contemporary graded exams offered by various awarding bodies (ABRSM, Trinity, RGT/LCM).

I worked within further education between 2018 and 2022 as a Guitar and Music Tutor at ACL Essex. This role involved teaching classes of between 8-12 adult learners of varying backgrounds and skill levels. I adapted the previously classical-focussed curriculum to also include more popular styles, and made it more accessible through introducing new teaching methods and resources.

Although Jack is a very intelligent individual, I cannot say he is extremely professional. Initially, I enjoyed my lessons, however, Jack would sometimes forget when we had scheduled tutoring and not turn up. Then, after a few months, Jack stopped attending sessions altogether without notice or warning. Despite all my attempts to contact him, I did not receive any messages as to why he had suddenly stopped tuition. This, in my opinion, is very unprofessional, and I now have a new tutor.

Good communication from the start. Very professional, encouraging & enthusiastic. Certainly knows his subject in theory & practice. Well worth the expense if you’re a beginner or looking for tips & guidance to improve.
