Information about Fin
I`m interested in the development of pupils` conceptual understanding of maths - there are no quick fixes and I don`t wish to be used as an exam / cramming tutor. I genuinely want to help kids that find maths difficult and, more often than not, these problems first start to surface in Key Stage 2 - from around the age of 7-11, which is a really crucial time for their mathematical development and self-confidence. The way they are taught in the earlier years of primary school means that most pupils are able to develop their understanding. Unfortunately, from Year 3 onwards, a lot of teaching in schools becomes more abstract and some pupils just need a bit more support to keep up and carry on enjoying maths. That`s where I come in...
Availability: I can be flexible about availability, although most tutoring would need to take place from Monday-Thursday in the evening.
Tutoring takes place in your home, in the presence of another responsible adult.
Willing to travel: 1 miles
Experience: I`ve taught in state primaries for 5 years and at an international school for 2 years, as a class teacher and Maths Subject Leader.
My first degree was in Psychology and I then completed a PGCE in Primary Education in 2008 and have since become a Primary Maths Specialist Teacher (MaST, a DfE sponsored Master`s-level post-graduate certificate).
I have specialised in conceptual understanding and developing mathematical thinking and my current role involves working with schools and training teachers to become better maths teachers.
