Information about Munira

My teaching career has spanned 3 decades, during which the education system has undergone many changes. Despite this, core teaching values remain unchanged.

Having qualified as a Secondary Maths teacher in 1995, I have worked in Secondary and Primary education over the years. During my career break when starting a family, I began tutoring at home. This was before online technological advancement. I have always felt a sense of satisfaction teaching pupils one to one and in small groups because it is much easier to establish a teacher-pupil connection.

As you can see from my CV, I have worked in the classroom, predominantly in the Primary sector for over a decade. It has been a learning curve for me as I have become familiar with the Primary curriculum, data tracking software, report writing and adapting my teaching to varied age groups. Over the years, I have become a more versatile, flexible teacher, who can slip into different roles seamlessly. I have worked in Key Stage 2 (mostly Year 5 & 6) in all the Primary schools I’ve worked in.

In 2017, a friend was starting a tutoring business and asked if I could offer my services as a secondary Maths tutor, to which I agreed. Although the business did not do well, I had begun teaching a few pupils, which over the years has become quite a large portfolio. My clientele is predominantly word of mouth and recommendation. Initially I started teaching face-to-face, however during Covid, I transferred my students to online. Now I have a mix of online and face-to-face. My focus is Year 9, 10 and 11 Maths. I have pupils whom I teach on-to-one and some I teach in groups of up to 6. The apps used are Microsoft Teams or Zoom.

The feedback from my pupils and the parents is always heartwarming. The fact that I do not need to advertise is noteworthy. Since the start of my venture, my pupil numbers have grown from word-of-mouth. With the parents I am honest, precise regarding their children’s needs and fair. With pupils, my main focus it to dispel fears of the subject, improve their confidence and set realistic goals. I have found by working on their confidence in the subject, the goals automatically are set higher.

Regarding my personal life, my children are all independent and therefore I have flexibility of time. I currently work 2 days at Cranbrook Primary School. However, I am willing to give this up if circumstances change. I do not own a Chromebook, but am willing to invest in one if I am offered a position at Read. My experience ranges from KS2 to KS4 and I would like to be considered for either position.
