Information about Onyi

Hello! My name is Onyi and I have been a tutor for more than 4 years. I first started tutoring to help students I knew who wanted to improve their GCSE grades but did not know how. I knew how daunting exams could be as I had fallen behind when doing my exams but with help, determination, and perseverance I was able to achieve my goals. I believe that with support anyone is capable of achieving the highest grades.

I primarily teach English and French but also specialise in 11+ admissions (verbal and numerical reasoning) and Maths. I am able to help students by giving them an understanding into what the topic entails and what examiners are looking for. This includes understanding how to answer questions by looking at the marking criteria and specification given by the exam board. I have had incredible success with this methodology as I do not dictate my own ideas onto a student but help them find their own pathway. This enables them to have conviction in their work so that they are able to replicate high marks in an exam setting. I have yearlong and term-long lesson plans that I share with students that break down the topic into manageable bites. Through this, I find that I am able to supplement learning.

When teaching, I like to be a guide to help the student understand how to arrive at the correct answer. By doing this, students do not learn to rely on my to give them the results but rather learn how to find the results themselves. I like to find out how each student like to learn and plan personalised activities that take advantage of their strengths and improve their weaknesses.

As a student, I have first hand experiences of the curriculum and exam boards. Now, I often read the specifications to find out exactly what my students need to learn as that is a key thing that helped me personally. Since I was in GCSEs, I have also had extensive practise marking and grading GCSE English and French essays which can be more difficult to for a student to ascertain where they are making mistakes,
