Information about Anusha

I’m a 2nd-year Financial Maths student at Queen Mary University of London. I focus on online tuition for secondary school and sixth form students studying Mathematics and can also tutor GCSE Chemistry, Physics and Biology.

My A levels were in Maths, Further Maths, Chemistry and Physics. You may not have thought that as a child I struggled with getting to grips with Maths and lacked faith in my abilities.

However, by changing my mindset and methodology, using exam papers and exam-style questions, I transformed my grades and gained confidence. The students I have tutored often say they ‘hate’ maths or sciences. In my view, this stems not from being bad at a subject but from perhaps lacking support in lessons which results in weak foundations in their knowledge and not trusting their abilities. It is my goal that at the end of a lesson, my students not only learn new skills but also solidify their current knowledge, and hopefully end up loving maths and science as I do.

Experience: Currently, I offer GCSE and A-level Maths tutoring as well as GCSE Chemistry, Biology and Physics and have received good feedback about my teaching and structured lessons.

I tailor each lesson based on their ability, age and their curriculum, and by building a rapport and understanding of their strengths and weaknesses. My objective is to create a comfortable and positive learning experience.

My lesson plans consist of establishing content understanding based on a student’s current ability and building on this through questions. Often, it is also useful to pick up on topics a student is currently working on in class. This can help them gain confidence when working in class. In turn, this can have a significant change in their engagement in school and a positive change in attainment. The above enables a student to be inquisitive and understand the synoptic nature of exams, which is ultimately their main goal. Ultimately, Maths must not be feared and I feel I can change how my students perceive the subject.

I completed my A-Levels in Maths, Further Maths, Chemistry and Physics, with grades A* and A in Maths and Further Maths, respectively. At GCSE, I studied Maths, Further Maths, Statistics, Physics, Chemistry, Biology, Food Technology, English Literature, English Language, History and Religious Studies attaining 9 Grade 9’s and 2 Grade 8’s.
