Information about Lawrence

I am a part-time maths, physics and philosophy tutor, based in St Albans, Hertfordshire, with 4 years of teaching experience (including teaching philosophy undergraduate seminars at UCL, a leading UK university). I have three masters’ degrees and am currently studying for a PhD. I am keen to tutor students of a range of levels and abilities who are studying for KS3, GCSE and A Level maths, GCSE physics, or A level philosophy. Most of my students are studying the Edexcel or AQA syllabus. I also offer tuition for those who aren`t studying for any particular qualification but just looking to learn out of curiosity or for fun. This includes tuition to adult learners who may want to get back into a subject they haven’t studied or read about in years.

Availability: I am available at a range of times 6 days a week, Mon-Sat. See my availability for details. Message me further to arrange a time/date.

Experience: I tutor most of my students in three main ways. First, I support students in topics that they are having difficulties with understanding. I help them by explaining the material until I am confident that the student has understood it and overcome any particular difficulties that they have had. I then often test them by asking them questions to check their understanding. Second, I support students each week whilst they are learning new topics in classes. In such cases, our lessons would be like ‘back-up’ sessions, and it will be important to check the student’s understanding as they progress through their academic year. Third, and perhaps most important, I help students prepare and be in the best position possible for their exams, whether GCSE or A level. I like working with keen students, so I encourage them to come to me with specific questions or topics that they consider weaknesses so that we can solve them together until I am confident that the topic is no longer a weakness. I also encourage them to spend as much time as possible on practising exam questions and past papers to ensure that they are as well-prepared as possible for their exam. This not only helps boost the students’ confidence, but it also helps them to achieve their true potential.

Lawrence is a good tutor. My son is a year 13 A level Physics students and because of the Coronavirus and the cancellation of all A level exams we only used Lawrence for approximately 6 weeks. However, in that time he very quickly identified my son`s learning gaps and also engaged well with my son. I am very happy to recommend Lawrence.
