Experience: I have successfully supported groups of learners across the age and ability spectrum to fulfil their potential in English Literature and Language and to find the study of written, spoken and multimodal texts interesting, challenging and fun. I have significant experience working with students who have Special Educational (including emotional and behavioural) Needs; students whose native language is not English; and students who have become disengaged with English (and/or school in general), either because they find it hard or they find it boring. As a practising teacher of Secondary English, I have taught and supported English departments in a broad variety of classroom settings across Cambridgeshire and Peterborough, Bedfordshire and Norfolk. I have a strong academic background as well as a passion for and commitment to continuous learning which I seek to inspire in my tutees. During five years of rigorous academic study in English Literature (DipHE) at the University of East Anglia and Anglia Ruskin University (BA Hons), I covered a broad range of literary periods, genres and modes including critical theory, creative writing, and interdisciplinary subjects (philosophy, cultural studies, French) so I have a deep subject knowledge and skills set to offer my students. After graduating, I participated in Postgraduate teacher training sessions at Cambridge University, specialising in the teaching of English at secondary level. I have since worked as a Teaching Assistant at a Special Needs school, as a KS3 (Years 7-9) Teacher and Literacy Co-Ordinator, as a KS4 (years 10 and 11) Intervention Tutor for the English GCSEs, and recently as an Instructor of English (UQT) teaching KS3, 4 and 5 students at a Secondary School in Peterborough. I have accepted an unconditional offer of a place at the University of Bristol to complete my teacher training later this year and am excited to be tutoring students 1:1 in English and related subjects until then. I have marked and moderated examinations for AQA, so I am familiar with the specifications and texts studied on this syllabus, but also have experience in supporting students studying for OCR, Edexcel and WJEC.
