Information about Lucy

Experience: I have successfully supported groups of learners across the age and ability spectrum to fulfil their potential in English and to find the study of texts interesting and thought-provoking. I`m experienced in working with students who have Special Educational Needs (including those with Social, Emotional and Mental Health Disabilities), students whose native language is not English, students with low confidence, and students who have become disengaged with English/school in general.
As a practising qualified secondary English Teacher, I have taught English in a broad variety of classroom settings across Cambridgeshire, Peterborough, Bedfordshire, Norfolk and Bristol. I, myself have a strong academic background, a genuine love for my subject and a commitment to continuous learning which I try to inspire in my tutees. I have had rigorous training in English at two universities, covering a range of literary periods and genres, including critical theory, creative writing, and related subjects (philosophy, psychology, history, cultural studies, French). This means I can offer students a broad and deep subject knowledge and skills set. I can also mentor young people who are considering pursuing English studies at university level.
Since graduating, I have participated in teacher training sessions at Cambridge University, worked as a KS4 Teaching Assistant at a specialist school, a Literacy and Curriculum Co-ordinator, a GCSE English Intervention Teacher, a Form Tutor, and as a Teacher of Literature and Language at five contrasting secondary academies.
I have marked and moderated exams for the AQA specification, but have also tutored students studying the Edexcel and OCR pathways with an excellent record of results. I endeavour to complement your child`s regular lessons in school so that they receive consistent and robust feedback from their teachers.
I am a sensitive, patient and encouraging tutor with a lot of enthusiasm. I aim to go above and beyond to ensure that your child feels supported to succeed and grows in confidence, whatever their starting point or target grade. I am flexible, tailoring sessions according to your needs and schedule. That said, I have high expectations of the young people in my care and challenge them to work hard for their successes.
A private tutor is a huge investment which is why building a strong and trusting relationship with my students and their parents is at the heart of all I do. To date, all my tutees have fulfilled (or exceeded!) their target grades at A Level and GCSE.
