Information about Callum

Hello, my name is Callum.

I am a PhD student in Genomic Medicine and Statistics (DPhil) at the University of Oxford. I have previously achieved a first-class honours at undergraduate level in Biochemistry (BSc) from King`s College London, and a master`s with distinction in Human and Molecular Genetics (MSc) at postgraduate level from Imperial College London.

I have a passion for Science, Mathematics and languages. Science and Maths have always been my favourite subjects. I studied triple science all the way through to A-Level, in addition to Maths and Spanish.

I completed 14 subjects at GCSE and achieved the English Baccalaureate, scoring 10A*s, 3As and a distinction* in ICT.

I am fluent in Spanish, and I have a deep knowledge of traditional music to the extent that I have won a national title and several regional prizes on two different instruments.

As someone who is seasoned in taking exams, I know how stressful these can be and I understand how exams can adversely affect a student. I know that a bad teacher, a bad experience or a minor issue can turn a young mind off forever. The education system is such that it does not allow for mistakes. As your tutor, I will endeavour to make your child`s tuition stress-free, fun and beneficial in every way.

I pride myself on my communication skills and I can make the hardest problems easier for the student to understand. I will ensure that your child is fully prepared for their exams, guaranteeing that they can not only hit but surpass their targets. The more your child progresses the easier it will be for them to successfully apply to a top Russell Group university.

In light of the current situation, I will endeavour to help your child catch up with any schooling they may have missed and will operate within government guidelines to ensure that teaching is not only effective but safe. This would include maintaining 1 metre plus social distancing and having hand sanitizer with me during in person lessons.

Availability: I am willing to do in person lessons in addition to video conferences online, which can be carried out through many different mediums including zoom, skype and teams. I am available seven days a week, throughout the morning to the evenings. I also teach overseas students in New Zealand, China, Sweden, Spain and South Africa, and I can work across many different time zones.

I am able to teach Maths and English up to GCSE and I specialise in Science and Spanish up to A-Level. I also offer university support to undergraduates from a wide range of subject backgrounds.

Willing to travel: 50 miles

Experience: My tutoring experience is varied and extensive.

I have worked on TutorHunt for many years, helping GCSE and A-Level students to catch up over the summer, prepare for exams/resits and work towards long-term goals. I have also worked with 11+ students, getting them ready to sit entrance exams for grammar schools. Moreover, I have taught students of all abilities and also supported students with ADHD, Dyslexia and Dyspraxia. In addition to TutorHunt, I have worked for Prevail Tuition since July of 2020 and Titanium Tutors from July 2021 onwards. Through working in multiple agencies I have taught a variety of subjects, at many different levels, and have gained more than 1000 hours of experience.

From October 2018 to June 2019, I also worked in a private tuition centre in London. I taught Maths and English to younger pupils in addition to GCSE Mathematics and Science to older students.

Whilst completing my A levels, I regularly helped my teachers to tutor other students. Several times a week I taught GCSE Chemistry, Biology and Physics to struggling students, helping them to excel and achieve As and A*s.

As part of a traditional music group I have spent several years tutoring music to younger pupils and adults, passing on my skills to the next generation of traditional musicians.

Lastly, I have taken part in multiple language exchanges and spent many holidays travelling to Spanish speaking countries to hone my language skills and immerse myself in a fantastic culture which has helped me to become fluent in Spanish.

My daughter’s weekly tutoring session over the last 6 weeks with Callum have been really helpful. Callum is friendly, punctual and always seems to have all the right materials at his fingertips. Whichever science topic my daughter wants to cover on the day he is ready to help her without any advance warning.

Callum is an outstanding tutor. He made a tailored assessment straight away, and is covering the areas of Physics A-level which my son finds more challenging. His explanations are super clear, and I`m delighted we found him. When I asked my son how the lessons were after the first few, he said `really good` with the emphasis on really. Delighted!

Callum has been amazing! My Son Malec needed help with advanced maths and from the first session Malec understood it completely and is confident and enjoys it again. I can`t recommend Callum enough, his subject knowledge and his teaching style are top notch. Thanks!
