Information about James

I`ve always loved maths and the sciences, I achieved A`s and A*`s in gcse and A* A* A in my A levels of Maths, Further Maths and Physics. I scored almost 100% in my maths and further maths exams and was often aiding my peers in their learning whilst studying. I realised then that it was teaching maths that I really enjoyed and have since pursued every opportunity to improve at it.
I am currently in my third and final year of studying maths at the university if York and want to become a teachers afterwards, I will be starting a teacher training year with PGCE next year.
The importance of teaching was shown to me after seeing how much of an impact an enthusiastic teacher can have on learning. I was lucky to have great teachers and want to make sure many more students have that same experience of maths at school.

Availability: Most evening and weekends, I can work around you whenever possible.

Best day for me is Saturday afternoons/evenings but I can work with you using my timetable/schedule and your commitments.

Willing to travel: 3 miles

Experience: I have worked in classrooms for the last 4 and helped students ranging from year 7 to 12. As well as working in schools with children right down to reception. I have been told my ability and mentality with children and students of all ages is brilliant and my empathy for struggling students is excellent.

From this wide range of experience I have developed and learnt many techniques and practices that I believe have a huge impact on the effectiveness of tutoring. I have worked in large groups and on a 1:1 basis and am confident in all areas of the subject from primary through to A level.

Observing and assisting in hundreds of lessons have helped me gain understanding of the sorts of topics that are tougher on students and given me experience in recognising when students lose understanding or need extra help. I appreciate every student is different and there is no `one size fits all` style of teaching.

At the schools I have worked at I have learnt from teachers with a wealth of experience and variety of styles of teaching and hope to transfer that to tutoring. I have been told by teachers that my ability to explain and to help students is of an incredible standard and am the perfect type of person to be a great teacher.

I aim to improve grades and understanding as well as enjoyment and engagement with your studies. This can be through weekly (or more regular) sessions. I will try to work around your schedule and make sure you are happy with our sessions, and if there is anything you want me to change. whether it be how I teach, the pace of lessons etc then I am happy to make adjustments.
