Information about Rachael

I am originally from the Northeast and came to London to study eight years ago. I completed a Bachelor of Music performance degree on Clarinet at the Royal College of Music in 2012. I then went on to complete a Master`s in Performance on Clarinet in 2014. Since then I have been teaching full time, I really enjoy teaching, it is my passion and has been what I wanted to pursue a career in after finishing my masters degree.

Playing a musical instrument has to be enjoyable and a lot of fun, something should be gained from every lesson!
Lots of teacher encouragement is key to success and I believe the pupil must have a say in what they want to learn and their input in the lesson is extremely important.
One to one lessons are a fantastic way to learn an instrument, for a teacher it is a very rewarding way to teach as you can get to really know the pupil you are teaching and get their personalities to shine through when playing an instrument. One to one lessons are so important as they enable the pupil to gain a good technique and enhance musicality through the attention the teacher can give to a single pupil.

Experience: Throughout my six years studying in London I built up a range of teaching experience through music educator schemes with the Royal College of Musics Sparks team. These schemes have allowed me to give presentations about the clarinet and to teach group clarinet lessons in Nursery, Primary and Secondary schools encompassing a wide range of ages and abilities.

I currently provide private tuition in West London teaching children from age 5 upwards including Adults! I also teach in a number of schools. I teach whole class clarinet and recorder lessons for Ealing Music Service, I teach the music makers programme for Richmond Music Trust teaching key stage 1 children music skills. I teach for Hounslow Music service providing whole class clarinet and recorder lessons as well as one to one lessons at Belmont Primary School in Chiswick. I teach one to one clarinet lessons for the Hackney Youth Orchestra Saturday School in Stoke Newington. I have just been appointed as the clarinet lecturer at Morley College where I will be teaching clarinet to adults in small groups and conducting Morley Winds

Performance experience
During my time at the Royal College of Music I performed with a number of chamber ensembles. I performed Principal Clarinet with The RCM Philharmonic and RCM Symphony Orchestra including performing Mahler 7 conducted by Bernard Haitink. I have given solo performances and chamber recitals around London and the North East, I have also performed principal clarinet with the Young Sinfonia at The Sage, Gateshead as well as Principal Clarinet with The RCM Philharmonic and RCM Symphony Orchestra. I was one of the first musicians to perform with a wind quintet in Hall One of The Sage Gateshead, which was televised on the BBC Culture Show. I also recorded the Brahms Trio for a BBC Radio 2 programme presented by Howard Goodall.
