Information about Joseph
Hi there! I am a 22 year old graduate with a Masters Degree in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Sheffield. I graduated with a 2:1 honours degree and my course covered subjects such as pure mathematics, applied mathematics, mechanics and electronics among others. I am confident in many areas of maths and physics and enjoy helping others to learn at all levels.
I think it is important for students to be at ease when applying their knowledge to test questions and I aim to create a calm working environment to achieve this. This helps with recalling knowledge when put under pressure, and also works to reduce errors made when working through calculations. Each student approaches problems and learning in their own way, I will take note of this and use it to tailor subsequent lessons to each individual. I can provide worked solutions to example problems, and where required provide further questions which will help cement knowledge of a certain topic or method.
The wide-ranging topics covered in my engineering degree has given me a solid understanding of many different areas of study related to maths and physics. I think that this enables me to see different approaches to solving problems, and also ways to teach students to solve problems specific to their personal needs.
Availability: I am available on weekdays after 5pm and anytime on weekends.
Willing to travel: 5 miles
Experience: In secondary school I was part of a maths tutoring program where I helped younger students with any difficulties they were encountering. I successfully tutored several students and helped them to navigate the maths curriculum. In doing so I learnt a lot myself about effective teaching methods, particularly how to tailor study plans to individuals.
At university I continued to be active in engaging with younger years, helping and tutoring them with any difficulties they were having on an informal basis. I used techniques that I learnt from my lecturers to help guide my own teaching methods.
