Information about Damaris

I am a professional and dedicated practising Artist who exhibits frequently in the UK and internationally. My work has been selected for awards and I hold a studio at Wysing Arts Centre. After graduating from Camberwell College of Arts in 2015, I worked as a Painting Assistant for Damien Hirst. I specialise in Fine Art and Photography and I am passionate about getting people interested in the arts.

My approach is one of patience and encouragement. Individuals all have different needs and I adjust my teaching technique appropriately.

I can tutor and mentor you in:

-Fine Art materials and techniques - oil/acrylic/watercolour/ink/gouache painting, drawing, chalk/oil pastels, mixed media, conceptual art, etching, linocuts, carborumdum printmaking, installations, sculpture (wire/clay/plaster/etc…).

-Fine Art subjects and artist research (including essay writing)

- Photograph techniques - analogue photography, photography basics (shutter speed, aperture, ISO), high speed photography, motion blur, night photography, macro photography, black & white photography, long exposure photography.

I have an up to date Enhanced DBS check, hold a certificate in Child Protection Training, and I am a trained Arts Award Advisor (Bronze & Silver).

Availability: Afternoons and early evening during weekdays is best but I can be flexible.

Willing to travel: 10 miles

Experience: I work freelance as an Artist Facilitator for both Kettle`s Yard and Wysing Arts Centre, creating arts workshops for all ages in various settings. I have conceived, designed and delivered workshops based on temporary exhibitions and works in the permanent collection at Kettle’s Yard, Wysing Arts Centre, ChYpPS (Cambridge Council’s Children and Young People`s Participation Service) pop-up events, Peckover House, Kettle`s Yard LATE events, Teachers’ CPD evenings and for Circuit (Kettle`s Yard and Wysing Art Centre`s 18-25 group) events and sessions. For Wysing Arts Centre I have lead long-term projects with schools, housing projects and youth groups facilitating young people to put on their own creative workshops and events.

Since 2017 I have been working as a tutor and have experience teaching students aged 4 to 60 years old. We have covered many different techniques and mediums ranging from digital photography to sculpture to oil painting, as well as going on trips to museums and galleries around Cambridge.

I am a freelance Education Duty Manager at Kettle’s Yard, operationally managing the smooth running and delivery of family and adult workshops as well as school and educational visits. I also support offsite workshops at schools, for example, at North Cambridge, Academy working with audio recording to create a radio broadcast to be aired on a local radio station.

In 2018 I coordinated an Arts Award project with a Year 8 class at North Cambridge Academy for Kettle’s Yard. I conceived, designed and delivered a sculpture project and my role included leading a weekly lesson in school, giving presentations, assisting practical and writing workshops, organising a trip to Kettle’s Yard, and liaising between different partners to ensure the smooth running of the whole project.

I worked at The Leys School as an Art Technician for 2 years, giving one-on-one teaching and support to children from 11 to 18yrs in Art. I not only taught painting and drawing techniques but also printmaking techniques such as etching and linocuts. I have extensive experience helping final year students (Upper 6th/Year 13) preparing portfolios for University Applications.

5/5 Rating

I started as a complete 60-something novice and could not have found a better teacher. She patiently introduces me to new techniques and I see the improvement I am making every week. I cannot recommend her highly enough.
