Information about Claire

I am an experienced teacher of 30 years, at the moment work in a Secondary school as a Spanish teacher. I can teach AQA and Edexcel Spanish at KS3, KS4 and KS5.I currently work at a school where we have taught MFL according to the NCELP Pedagogy. After 3 years of training we have expertise in the new expectations for language teaching. We have worked with several Herftordshire schools and have trained them on the new teaching methodology. The new GCSE Specification is due to be introduced soon and and our current Year 7 pupils will be equipped to make excellent progress to tackle the new assessments.
I can adapt my teaching to any exam board as I am very experienced at meeting the needs of individual pupils. I have taught Spanish in a Primary school for 12 years where I was the subject leader.
I have taught lots of adults Spanish and I really love it ! I have taught Spanish to business people, for people who have properties in Spain, and pupils who want to improve their fluency. I have a lot of teaching experience of teaching people online and have taught international students for example a footballer who is learning Spanish to coach Mexican children in the U.S.A. or pupils at International Schools.
I find that tutoring enables pupils to ask those questions that they may not have felt able to ask at school. I find it very rewarding as a tutor when pupils begin to understand parts of the course which they were finding difficult. I especially like to see pupils gain confidence in their ability to speak and write in Spanish. I really love tutoring and have been told that I have great communication skills. I find it easy to build a rapport with pupils on a one to one basis and I am very flexible with my approach to teaching.
I have lots of experience of teaching pupils with SEN and I adapt my teaching to suit their needs. I have done training on how to tutor pupils with ASD, ADHD and dyslexia and how to support pupils with mental health issues. Due to lockdown a lot of pupils were struggling with school. Last year I saw real progress with one of my pupils who was not attending school and was overwhelmed with too much work. After a period of tuition she was more confident when she returned to school and she went from achieving a Grade 5 to a Grade 7 at GCSE.
With 22 years experience of working in an Outstanding Academy I have the skills to stretch and challenge the most able pupils. I have tutored pupils that have wanted help with their Oxbridge applications. I have helped undergraduates practise for their oral exams and with their Translation skills for the Speaking modules. I recently supported an undergraduate doing a degree in International Relations and Spanish and helped her with her oral portfolio. We worked on her translation skills for her final year modules as well. She graduated with a First Class Honours degree and was really pleased with the tuition she had.
If you are looking for some individual tutoring to help with specific parts of a syllabus I am here to help you.

We have had four lessons with Claire, and she is very personable and immediately put my son at ease with her friendly manner. He lacks confidence and has several gaps in his learning due to having several supply teachers at school. However, Claire doesn`t make my son feel uncomfortable when this has become apparent in lessons, instead, she uses this knowledge and applies it in her tutoring sessions. My son is definitely benefiting from the one-on-one sessions, so thank you, Claire.
