Information about Leonardo
Friendly and approachable, I am a qualified secondary school Science teacher (Physics specialist) and Master of Physics graduate who is genuinely passionate about the subjects he teaches. Whether you are looking for a one-off session on a specific topic, or long term support for school studies, please dont hesitate to get in touch.
My aim as a tutor is to be able to take the ideas and concepts that my tutee is facing and present them in a way that is intuitive and clear. Every student is different and as such each lesson should be unique.
Availability: 17:30 - 21:00 all week.
Willing to travel: 5 miles
Experience: What started with a way to earn some money in 2017 via personal tuition became something of a passion as I have now been teaching over for 5 years, becoming a qualified science teacher in 2021.
As a teacher I honed my skills and taught students of all academic backgrounds, language abilities and special educational needs. I focused on my method of breaking down complicated, abstract ideas into concrete examples that would intuitively make sense.
I am a science enthusiast and have been fortunate enough to complete both a masters` and a bachelors` degree in Physics.
For my masters`, at the University of Surrey, I completed high quality research projects, and engaged in postgraduate level maths, physics and biophysics. My dissertation, a project testing the use of cosmic ray imaging to discover ground water, received 66.5% and was a great personal experience.
During my bachelors` degree at Exeter University, I was president of the Physics Society. This was a voluntary role which saw me take on many responsibilities including a pastoral role with the first-year students. This purpose of this role was to help them settle in, which sometimes involved advising them on assignments, problem sets, or even issues unrelated to their course.
While not a STEM subject, I`ve had a lot of experience teaching 8-15 year old children to sail at Albany Park Canoe and Sailing Centre. It was this that introduced me to teaching and working with young people. While teaching sailing to groups of children is different to one-to-one STEM tuition, it has been beneficial in helping me learn to communicate better.
