Information about Alison
I have worked for the past 20years as a Teaching Assistant. For the last 15 yrs I have been at L3 and a Higher Level TA (HLTA). I am trained in Behaviour and anger management, I have a teaching certificate for teaching students with Dyslexia, I run self esteem courses and Motivation workshops specialising in alternative styles of learning to gain maximum effectiveness with revising. My main passion is GCSE English. I assess and produce personalised programmes of work for my students in order to give them confidence and an enjoyment of learning. I believe learning should be fun as this enables the brain to relax and absorb more information. I am happy to tutor in other subjects, although I would only teach KS3 or Foundation Maths.
I also tutor at KS2 level in all subjects but mainly English. I can help prepare for SATS and include a preparing for Secondary School programme , this looks at expectations from Secondary Staff and new areas within English that are very important when taking exams , for example Inference, Analysis, Vocabulary and Literal Comprehension. These disciplines can make the difference in progression through the KS3 structure and obviously into GCSE exams.
Availability: I am available for some day time sessions and have worked with Home Schooled students, students waiting for alternative school arrangements and students temporarily excluded.
During this difficult time I can tutor catch up sessions with the view of returning to school and
GCSE re-takes in November. I am usually available from 3.00pm most days, school holidays and Saturday mornings. My last evening session would start at 6.00pm as I believe that after 7.00 the brain will not take in any more information and so the session would be counter productive.
Willing to travel: 10 miles
Experience: I have twenty years experience as a Teaching Assistant in a local Secondary School. In 2003 I became the Inclusion Co-ordinator, this involved working with disruptive students who were not allowed in class. In 2006 I was made an HLTA my responsibility centred around Literacy, including spelling, grammar, Assessments in reading and general English catch up sessions. Since 2015 I was responsible for assessing, marking and producing schemes of work for students from Yr7 through to Yr 11, in all areas of Literacy and GCSE English. I ran Revision sessions covering individual techniques to maximise learning. In these sessions we covered Shakespeare, 19th Century Literature, Poetry and all aspects of the English Language curriculum including Transitional and imaginative writing.
