Hello. I’m a professional Set Designer and Assistant Art Director in the British film industry, working in the Art Departments of big-budget film & TV projects.

I can offer one-to-one remote training over Zoom/Skype on any of the following subjects:
- CV and portfolio review for entrants to the Art Department (£35/hr)
- Technical draughting for film and TV (£45/hr)
- VectorWorks: working in 3D (£45/hr)
- VectorWorks: using viewports to produce 2D technical drawings from 3D models (£45/hr)

VECTORWORKS
Like many in the film industry, when designing and draughting film sets, I typically use VectorWorks:
I build accurate and robust 3D models first, and then use viewports to produce detailed 2D technical drawings which can be quickly modified as the set (inevitably!) changes.

DRAUGHTING
Technical drawings in film & TV are a little different to those in architecture or the construction industry, so I offer teaching on the basics of site layouts, plans & elevations, detail drawings, full-size details and CNC files, as well as some tips for how to survey a location. I think it’s important to design and draught sets in a way that minimises construction costs whilst retaining ‘wow’ aesthetics, so that’s my starting point whenever I talk about draughting.

CV & PORTFOLIO REVIEW
During the course of my career, I’ve hired, managed and guided several new entrants to the industry, and I’m still often asked to help hone CVs and portfolios. It’s always a pleasure.

I’ve a keen eye for detail and I love wielding a red pen, though, so be warned!!

TEACHING
I’ve a keen interest in passing on knowledge and making complex subjects understandable, and the joy of one-to-one training is that I can adapt to answer whatever specific needs you might have – please get in touch to discuss your training aims.

I gained a Masters Degree in Engineering from Cambridge University in the late 1990s

I have teaching experience in dance, music and language, as well as film stuff, and I became qualified as a TEFL teacher in 2006.
