I am a PhD student in English Literature at [contact detail removed]. I have a first-class bachelor`s degree in English Language and Literature from the University of Leeds, and a master`s in English Studies from the University of Cambridge. I also hold A-levels in Psychology (A), English Language (A) and English Literature (A*).

I first studied at High Storrs Secondary in Sheffield, before moving to Abbeydale Grange for personal reasons. I then attended King Edward VII sixth form, but left after my AS year, having achieved only lacklustre results. After spending two years outside the education system, I enrolled at Chesterfield College, aged 19, where I attained the glowing A-level results given above.

My diverse educational background gives me a high degree of cultural sensitivity, and a passionate commitment to helping students who may not yet have found their wings in their academic pursuits.

Availability: I am available daytimes and evenings during the week, and will consider weekends.

Experience: I have previously taught tutees in English Language and Literature at GCSE, A-Level and undergraduate degree level. I also have several years experience tutoring second-language English speakers, helping them to improve their academic and written English.

Three words sum up my approach to teaching: flexible, accessible and focused. For each new tutee, I devise a learning plan that fits their unique situation, and accommodates any special requirements. Working with the syllabus of each pupil’s examining body, I use this learning plan to help the student achieve the subject knowledge they need to excel in their exams. My approach goes beyond assessment, however: drawing on my comprehensive knowledge of English, I help students to a deeper understanding of the language, developing their abilities in reading, writing, critical thinking and rhetoric, transferable skills that will aid them in their further studies and future career.
