Information about Charlotte
I am a practicing neuroscientist with an MSc in Clinical Neuroscience (distinction), Physiology BA from Oxford University and four years teaching experience.
In addition to tutoring I work at the National Hospital of Neurology and Neurosurgery, where I am researching the use of a diagnostic test called Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation. I recently presented my research at the 6th International Conference on Transcranial Brain Stimulation, and am preparing to write the findings in scientific journal article. This work is a continuation of my MSc project for which I was awarded a distinction (76%), and silver award for high attainment.

Experience: Over the past year I have provided tutoring and in secondary science and degree level neuroscience. This has included both regular one-to-one as well as small group tutoring within schools. I currently provide weekly sessions with an A-level biology student and MSc Neuroscience student.
My prior teaching experience includes four terms experience in secondary mainstream schooling, initially as a teaching assistant at Westminster Academy, and subsequently as a class teacher at Sydney Russel School, Dagenham. As a teaching assistant I worked with SEN students providing, one-one tutoring, small group holiday schooling, extracurricular activities and in-class support. As a teacher I taught KS3 and KS4 lessons, to students with varying abilities, through which I gained skills in differentiating work to make it both accessible and informative to all.
My classroom experience is further supported by theory obtained through lectures and seminars at Kings College London, independent study and an on-line course The Essential Knowledge of Key Stage Teaching. This provided me with a solid foundation in theories of learning, notably the means and importance of identifying and addressing misconceptions and the principles of formative marking.
Continually aiming to better myself I have perused further study across the sciences and arts including the prestigious British Physiological Society Short Course in Integrative Pharmacology & Physiology on which I was awarded a place.
As a tutor I am able to adapt to the needs of the individual student. I have experience working with individuals of varying needs, through my roles as SEN teaching assistant/teacher, Sunday school leader, nursing assistant, home help and peer mentor. I enjoy using my creativity to generate games and analogies to bring difficult concepts to life, whilst simultaneously appreciating the value of working methodically through past paper questions when preparing for exams.
