Information about Perry

Qualified Maths teacher with over seven years teaching experience and my previous department, located in a west London state school were ranked in the TOP 1% NATIONALLY based on PROGRESS-MADE. I have taught in 3 state schools around west London and have held various roles including Assistant Director of Learning, Head of Year 12 and Assistant Curriculum Leader. I have taken seven Year 11 cohorts to their GCSE exams.

After a year sabbatical to complete a masters degree and briefly working as an analyst in the city, I have returned to teaching, and widened my curriculum experience as I am preparing students for their Eleven Plus and Thirteen Plus examinations in a local private school.

The following weblink will take you to some research I carried out on scaffolding and mental stamina: https://www.tutorhunt/resource/22675/

I am fully aware and up to date of the adjusted requirements and demands of the new GCSE specification and have taught between the transition from the "old" to the "new" style papers. I have edited the GCSE scheme of work for my current school to ensure it is accessible to all students whilst I have also written the scheme of work for those students aiming to complete their GCSE in a one-year timeframe.

I believe that it is important to create an enjoyable learning environment in which my students are comfortable expressing themselves, thus providing a platform where they can acquire a much more comprehensive understanding of mathematics. My lessons are adapted to the need of each student and scaffolds are in place when necessary, to ensure they are making steady progress. Lessons are often student led (depending on the topic or accessibility of the student(s)) where I tend to act as a facilitator of their learning rather than the traditional ‘teacher’.

I have experience and work well with:

- Underperforming students, perhaps due to confidence issues, stress, anxiety, school absence, behaviour or emotional problems.

- Highly performing students that require a tutor to stretch their understanding of mathematics, achieve a higher grade, or to give them a thorough understanding of mathematics as a whole to progress further.

I have a full DBS enhanced disclosure, hold qualified teacher status and can provide a CV, qualification certificates on request.

[My daughter] had always struggled in maths and found it difficult at times. She really tries her best and applies herself to your lesson. I just wanted to let you know that [she] is really enjoying and leading a lot in her maths class. Thank you for showing interest in the students. I thought parents are so quick to complain that I felt a compliment should also be given for all the hard work you put into your work”. (23rd Nov 2017)

Perry has tutored two of my children in Year 10 for GCSE Maths. He is professional, punctual, personable and most importantly, he is extremely knowledgeable. Perry comes to each and every session well-equipped, bringing worksheets every week and the children really enjoy the sessions. They always feel that they have learnt a great deal with him and I can wholeheartedly recommend Perry as a Tutor of Maths.
