Information about Jennifer

I am a highly qualified teacher of French with a lifetime of experience and an excellent track record of outstanding public examination results, most recently in two leading independent schools. I am calm, friendly and supportive and my main aim is to foster confidence and a can-do attitude in my students. I use a variety of teaching and learning styles and I want my students to enjoy what they are doing and ask as many questions as they like. My degree is actually in Russian Studies but I did French as a subsidiary subject for the first two years of the course. As Russian is not widely taught in UK schools, the bulk of my teaching experience over several decades has been French. Many of my French students have been accepted at top universities, including Oxford and Cambridge. My fluency has been maintained through regular exchanges and visits to France and working with (indeed sometimes teaching!) native French speakers.

Availability: I can be very flexible about hours: daytime or evenings.

Willing to travel: 5 miles

Experience: I have vast experience of teaching French to GCSE, A Level and IB in a variety of secondary schools: mixed, single sex, comprehensive, selective and independent. In the past I also led a Russian department. Over the past twenty years I taught exclusively French in two leading girls’ schools. I served for many years as a Head of Languages and as an Assistant Headteacher in a leading grammar school. My work has included preparing students in French for Oxford and Cambridge, with a good track record of offers. I prepare students for Common Entrance and 13 plus Scholarships. I have also given support in English to EAL students and worked one-to-one to support students who find French difficult. I have taught adult evening classes in the past. I have now retired from classroom teaching, but I don`t think I will ever retire from teaching because I love it. Perhaps you feel that you lacked speaking practice while your learning was disrupted? Perhaps you need help with grammar or writing? I can suggest tailor-made sessions to get you back on track with one-to-one practice and advice, whatever your current level.

Jenny is a very friendly and helpful tutor. She was able to quickly assess my son`s ability levels and gain his trust and confidence to work with him to improve. Jenny is very structured and organised and comes to each lesson with a clear lesson plan as well as providing suggested follow up activities to reinforce learning and supplement his studies at school.
