Information about Duncan

I am looking for a change in my career. In 2017 I was diagnosed with cancer, and as such my work history has had gaps, due to the fact that I have been in and out of treatment during this time. However, during that this I have worked in several roles, including exam invigilation in high schools, as a self-employed personal tutor, at a food stall and as a teaching assistant. I feel that although my illness has affected my ability to work, and that I can no longer pursue my ambition to work in education as a teacher, I am still a capable employee.
I have worked in several roles in the catering industry, as a shop clerk, pot washer, waiter, and service assistant. In these roles I have been trained in Health and Safety, including hygienic food preparation, storage and service area organisation and maintenance, use of tills and accounting, customer service, and event organisation.

PGCE Student Teacher
Burnage High School (via Manchester Metropolitan University): Sept 2019 – Nov 2019

Working in schools has allowed me to develop my ability to manage behaviour in large groups of young people, as well as administrating my own educational practices so that they meet the standards needed in schools. I have been in charge of classes under supervision and planned and delivered lessons in English at Secondary level.

SEN Teaching Assistant
St Peters High School: Sept 2018 – April 2019

I have worked in the Education sector as a Teaching Assistant for pupils with special needs. This role had me reprise my safeguarding and educational skills and apply them to a much more complex and stressful environment.

Exam Invigilator
Whalley Range High School: March 2018 – July 2018

While I held this position for only a short time, it contributed to my ability to organise and coordinate in a time regulated environment, as well as maintain security and behaviour in schools

One to One Tutor:
Self- Employed: Nov 2017 – Sept 2018

I worked with students one to one to help them improve their Maths and English skills in order to pass exams. This job required me not only to meet high standards but engage young people in a productive and positive way

SEN Keyworker / Teaching Assistant
Stanley Grove Primary Academy: Jan 2017 - Oct 2017

This job helped me develop my safeguarding skills with younger children, ensuring their safety and well-being, while making sure they engaged with their lessons

Tutor, Mentor and Project Coordinator
Community Change Foundation: Sept 2013 - Sept 2016

I have worked in the Charity sector as a mentor and tutor, where I have organised events such as feeding the homeless, organising courses within the community to teach mentors, as well as working with young people from deprived areas and who have suffered traumatic experiences. I have qualifications in education and have completed DBS clearance many times to ensure my ability to safeguard vulnerable individuals. I have worked with individuals to help them attain educational and developmental goals they needed to progress, from basic Maths and English, to professional skills such as those needed in the Security sector.
