Information about Esme

I teach social sciences; Psychology, Sociology and Criminology, and am passionate about the subjects. I have taught GCSE Religious education, BTEC Health and Social Care ay key stage 4 and 5, Ethics and have been a form tutor throughout. I have sought to improve the learning experiences of my students by adding to department resources. I strongly believe that it is critical for students to take ownership of their learning and progress, as a teacher it is my job to provide the materials and develop the skills that enable them to do so. I have been a Sixth Form tutor for a number of years, so have experience in preparing students for university life; writing UCAS references is an integral part of the role. I have contributed to wider teaching practice through continued involvement in developing a literacy strategy for the Social Sciences departments, and development of schemes of learning. I am also trained and engage with issues of `Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion`, and have been responsible for disseminating such knowledge. Within the past three years I have been privileged to be a part of expanding subjects offered at Sixth form to include the WJEC Applied Criminology level 3 qualification. My professional development has involved training with external agencies, the conducting of school wide surveys to ascertain feelings of inclusion, and the conducting of investigations to discover how to assess and modify teacher practice with the aim of promoting inclusion. My approach to teaching is highly reflective; this statement is a reflection of my desire to continue to be involved with education in my local community. I would aim to ensure clear guidance is given to students on how to improve their own learning. Academic excellence is always my aim.

With over 20 years of experience in the classroom, I bring a wealth of expertise in A-Level Psychology and Sociology. Throughout my career, I have remained passionate about the Social Sciences, consistently developing high-quality resources that empower students to take ownership of their progress.
My approach is built on the belief that students must be equipped with the specific skills to self-assess and refine their own work. By providing the cognitive tools required for high-level analysis, I help students bridge the gap between understanding content and mastering exam technique.
