I have a vast experience of supporting people over 16 years old in learning how to learn. I specialise in unlocking learning potential. My view is that before trying to take on lots of new knowledge about something, some people need help to be able to know how to do this. I have supported many 16 - 19 year old in preparing for degrees and for work-place exams. I have a very high success rate and all of my learners are now in higher education or have good quality jobs.
For example: I was contacted by a 17 year old who needed extra help to finish a Bachelor of Science degree and whilst taking this degree was given the opportunity to apply for an internship at General Electric. I supported him through his degree dissertation and also through his application to the company, ensuring he had a good quality CV etc. He is now a full time employee of the company after qualifying with a 2:1 BSc computer science with business.
Availability: I am normally available at weekends and in the evenings. I can be available occasionally during the week.
Willing to travel: 20 miles
Experience: I began my working life as a qualified nurse, but soon after qualifying I started teaching other student nurses, both on the wards and in the classroom. I rose to the position of Matron and set up a training establishment at a large nursing home. I then moved to be curriculum manager at a further education college and spent 5 years supporting all grades of learners in developing their learning capacity. I moved into higher education in 2005. I have, for the last 9 years been heavily involved in supporting work-place learners and also in guiding students through to Masters degree dissertations. I am a published author and have written a successful study skills book published in 2010. I have been invited to write in other publications edited by well-known academics. I have recently been appointed a Senior Fellow of the Higher Education Academy. Contact this Tutor
