Information about Helen
I have 30 years experience working as a science teacher in secondary education. During this time I have successfully taught a variety of specifications both GCSE and A level, exam marked, been a sixth form and yr 10/11 form tutor and trained teachers in my subject specialism as well having various managerial roles.
I am passionate about science especially physics, which is my main subject though I have taught biology and chemistry to GCSE on many occasions. I focus on the students needs and relate the subject knowledge needed for the exams to the real world to aid understanding and application especially in exam questions.
I retired from secondary school teaching in December 2017 however I still retain the links with my ex-colleagues so am able to receive up to date information regarding curriculum changes and exam information.
Availability: Im available for tutoring between 16.00 - 20.00 Monday to Friday although I am flexible, especially nearing exam time.
I also offer a free consultation, preferable with both parent and student, before I start the tutoring. This is so that I can establish what the potential problems are and tailor the lessons to meet the students needs.
For the foreseeable future I am only doing online lessons.
Willing to travel: 8 miles
Experience: I am qualified to teach physics, chemistry and biology to GCSE and physics to A level. I have 30 years experience in teaching children GCSE science and approximately 5 years teaching A level physics. I have worked with the full range of abilities including high achieving students and students who have SEN statements in a variety of situations and schools. I have had to adapt quickly to the ever changing specifications to ensure the best possible results for my students, as a result I have a huge bank of resources to help them reach their full potential as well as a detailed knowledge of how to answer exam questions. Since retiring in December 2017 I have tutored several students in A level physics and GCSE science. All have done exceptionally well with the new science curriculum and all have improved on their mock exam results.
I have experience in teaching the current AQA specification for both GCSE and A level physics.

We are really happy with this service. It was quick and easy to find a tutor. My daughter had a consultation and then her first session and this went really well. Very happy.

Helen has been very good for our daughters education in the sciences. Experienced, knowledgeable and able to teach in a way which has brought along someone who was capable but lacking in confidence. Would very much recommend Helen to your clients.
