Information about Cecilia
I am a qualified English language teacher with 30 years of experience in classroom teaching in higher education, secondary schools and in private tutoring. I enjoy teaching and adapt my materials and methodology to meet the learners` needs and interests. I believe that it is important to motivate learners and to help them to become creative, analytical and independent. I am an English GCSE examiner for 3 different boards and have an excellent track record of helping students improve on their expected grades in both Language and Literature. I am also a fluent and accurate speaker of Italian, having lived and worked in Italy for a number of years.
Availability: Mornings, afternoons and evenings, weekdays and weekend
Willing to travel: 10 miles
Experience: In the last 25 years I have taught most aspects of the English language e.g. grammar, vocabulary, writing, text analysis, pronunciation, to students at universities in the UK and Italy. I have considerable experience in teaching English to both adults and children of most ages. I prepare students for IELTS, Cambridge English exams, GCSEs, IGCSEs and A’ levels. I have taught Business English in several companies.

Cecilia has been a great find and I feel that she and my son are working well together. She`s not overbearing as a teacher but is obviously expert in her field and is able to work alongside my son, giving him the guidance and confidence he needs. Unfortunately, teacher changes, large classes and COVID have not proved a good combination and I feel that my son has been allowed to slip through the system. I feel confident that the boost that Cecilia provides will allow him to reach his potential, should he be able to sit his GCSE.

We have not actually had lessons from Cecilia yet because our arrangements have changed. However, I had a full discussion meeting with her about our daughters requirements and she was fully informed, had good ideas and a good plan of how we were to move forwards if we were going to go ahead. I cannot add any more at this stage as we have not yet commenced tutoring, but this is for our own personal reasons entirely. Cecilia seemed like she would be a very well organised and structured tutor.

My son was lacking confidence and finding elements of his GCSE exam difficult. We decided to get a tutor to `plug the gaps` prior to his exam in the summer. Cecilia was very approachable and was able to immediately work with my son - a usual teenage boy. His early response to the tutoring was clear. He enjoyed the sessions. He felt he was gaining clarity and understanding of what was expected. We feel he is progressing very well with the tutoring.
