Information about Anand

I have been a professional tutor for 2+ years since graduating from the University of Cambridge with a 2:1 in Human, Social, and Political Sciences. I have supported countless students to shine in their GCSEs, to out-perform their predicted A Level grades, to manage university workload, and to generally become open-minded and enthusiastic learners.

As someone who flourished through the rigour of Cambridge, I have the depth of knowledge (both conceptual and exam-practical) to inspire my students to reach their potential. In other words, I’ve been through it, I understand the struggle, and I want to share the tools that will also help you come out shining :)

Here are some ways that I have supported previous students to smash their academic goals:

> Patient guidance through tricky concepts, helping it ‘click’ through clear explanations and contemporary examples.

> Leveraging my extensive knowledge of mark schemes across exam boards to develop essay writing skills for all questions (short and extended), and to cultivate writing confidence and ‘flare’ to hit the top marks.

> Working through my bank of past papers, marking practice essays, and creating constructive action plans to fortify weaknesses and build on strengths.

> Crafting a bespoke revision calendar, based on the tried and tested ‘Active Recall Method’, and helping the tutee work through it every step of the way. My approach also centres mindfulness to help alleviate anxiety and to prevent exam term burnout.

My teaching style is simple: purposeful results-orientated learning, powered by a genuine enthusiasm. Building confidence in my tutees is imperative too, both for the exams, and for independent learning beyond.

Availability: Morning, afternoon, evening. Any day of the week, apart from Sunday evening.

Willing to travel: Home Only

Experience: 2+ years of tutoring, mentoring, and student university access experience.

At university I set up a college mentoring scheme for older students to give incoming students academic and pastoral support. Through this scheme I conducted bi-weekly 1-2-1 tutoring sessions with 3 incoming freshers. I guided them through their most difficult academic experience yet by familiarising them with complex concepts, sharing revision tips, and ultimately building their confidence to smash their first year exams.

Reading Human, Social, and Political sciences at the highest undergraduate level has enabled me to delve much deeper into the Sociological and Political concepts covered in GCSE and A Level, so I am able to supplement my teaching with specialist knowledge to give my tutees an edge.

Cambridge is also the birthplace of the ‘supervision system’ of learning. This involves 1-2-1 sessions with leading academics, which has given me first hand experience of the ins and outs of individualised learning.

I run regular ‘Social Sciences University Access Talks’ for Year 12 students at my local school. Each session gives a taster of what degree-level social sciences looks like (independent thinking, wider reading, creativity and flare) to help them decide whether they’d like take the subject to higher education.

Anand has been great! He is helping me with a fairly large writing project, and has been positive and curious in creating solid plans to work together on it. He is enthusiastic, passionate and provides expert analysis and commentary. Very excited to be continuing with such an attentive teacher!
