Information about Jacqui

I`m a Teaching Fellow of the Higher Education Academy and the University of London. I have a post-grade (PGCE) training in modern languages, with an MA in German and Politics, and an MA in Applied Linguistics and ELT. I also have a Celta qualification to teach EFL and a BA Hons in German and Politics. I was also trained by International House to teach Business English. (So that`s a bit more than some of the people on the website with just a degree in their teaching subject and no teaching qualifications or experience). In addition, I`ve more than 25 years teaching experience but that`s still not enough!

I`m professional, qualified, caring, supportive and dedicated. I go the extra mile to help students achieve their potential. Through adversity, I`ve helped my A level level student get 68% in German. I have also moved online using Zoom. I teach to the same standard online as leading independent schools. I provide parents with a PowerPoint document of the lesson, including homework for the session. I can help students navigate their way through home schooling and beyond. Some schools did not providing online lessons and I can help students catch up with missed classes but that`s still not enough!

I get the results - at least one grade higher in Gcse and A level exams. I can also help parents save ca. £;100,000 in school fees if they pass the 11 plus! In addition, I have contacts at independent schools and advise parents - other tutors don`t do this and I don`t charge for this part of the service! In other words, I can help students get into their chosen schools but that`s still not enough!

Availability: Good availability and will do online teaching, including home schooling support.

Willing to travel: 2 miles

Experience: I`m a privately educated, Postgrad cert in Education (PGCE) trained teacher, with a BA Hons, 2 MAs. (Please note: some listed tutors are NOT qualified or trained teachers - yet they charge extortionate rates!)

I`m a teaching fellow of the University of London and a Teaching Fellow of the Higher Education Academy. I was educated in the UK and abroad. Universities in the UK (BA Hons, MA and PGCE) and Germany (MA). Postgraduate studies. 1 year postgraduate teacher training in German and French as main languages. Certificate to teach EFL. 24 years` Ielts experience, MFL teaching / tutoring. 14 years` experience as a university EAP lecturer. Currently Teaching Fellow of the University of London in EAP. 2 years Mandarin learning at the Confucius Institute and successfully completed HSK 2 level. Currently working on 2nd yr of 2 year Applied Linguistics and English Language Teaching MA. Experience in teaching Politics and International Relations. Supported student`s successful application to LSE and work experience applications to international organisations e.g. UN in Geneva. Recently participated at a languages conference at London Uni and have written an academic paper in Lexical Sophistication of EAP essays that was published in Jan 2019.

I have helped students gain entrance into the following schools:

Charterhouse
Claremont School
Emanuel, Battersea
Guildford HS
Hampton
Harrow
Kingston Grammar
Kings College Wimbledon
Surbiton HS
Sutton HS
Tiffin School for Girls

I`m a professional teacher, who has been appropriately trained over one academic year on a post-grad course. So I establish a rapport with the student, setting boundaries and making expectations clear. In other words, I have an unwritten learning contract. I communicate after every lesson with the parents - outside of the lesson time - explaining progress and lesson content of the lesson and plans for the next week. In other words feedback is NOT part of the lesson time! My friendly, enthusiastic and professional nature is why I am popular both with students and parents alike.

I work on a one-to-one basis and in small groups. Apart from teaching, I provide the following support, which students find useful:

A) I teach, using my own laptop computer, I write notes. Every student receives a copy of these lesson notes after each lesson. It builds into a record of the work covered and is a valuable revision aid.

B) I provide appropriate resources, including worksheets, grammar charts, listening files and lots more.

People appreciate my friendly and flexible approach. I love teaching languages and transfer my enthusiasm so the time seems to go quickly, students are inspired and really do learn.

Availability: I can tutor seven days a week, day or evening, subject to availability and travel time.

Willing to travel: 15 miles

Experience: I have many years experience as a freelance tutor in German, English as a Foreign Language, Politics (IR) and 11 plus exams. I`ve worked in Germany, Italy and the Far East teaching English. I taught MFL and English in Schools and I currently teach at London University.

Through Jacqui`s tuition, my son achieved a grade 6 in his GCSE German, where previously his internal exam results showed grade as 3. Thank you.

Tutors Response :

My pleasure. I was delighted to help your son progress on his academic journey. I wish him well in his future studies and it was lovely to meet your family.

Thanks for your kind words - that cheered me up on a dull Monday afternoon.

Unprofessional. Doesn`t inform me when she is running late which is frequently. Doesn`t have the courtesy to tell me she is not going to show up when she is sick.

Tutors Response :

Unprofessional - don`t treat professional people like servants. Unlike you, I go to church on Sunday mornings. I`m sorry your husband is a "Gastarbeiter" - foreign worker who can`t speak German - in Germany and is probably "fremdgegangen" or unfaithful in Germany!

Please don`t take out your sexual frustrations on a university lecturer. Obviously a Gastarbeiter he can`t afford to sent his offspring to a proper school - please don`t take out your frustration at sending her to a local school.

Learn some manners in your host country.
