Information about Mathilda

Hello! My name is Mathilda. I graduated this year (2020) from Oxford with a degree in Classics, obtaining a high 2:1 degree. This academic year I am working as a full-time tutor in English and Maths GCSE in a comprehensive secondary girls school in Bromley. In particular, I am helping to support students whose education suffered during the COVID-19 pandemic due to lack of resources at home. My role requires me to be creative, organised and sensitive, and I am greatly enjoying the challenge.

For A-Level, I am able to teach Classical Languages (Latin and Ancient Greek), English Literature and Religious Studies/Philosophy. Additionally, I can help with preparation for the CAT (Classics Admissions Test), the first part of any prospective Oxbridge student`s application for Classics, and should they progress further in their application, interview practice.
At GCSE standard, I am able to teach all of the subjects mentioned under A-Level, Maths and the three sciences.
I am also able to prepare students for 11+ and 13+ entrance exams.

In my free time, I greatly enjoy hiking, cooking, long-distance running and listening to (and discovering) music. I read widely, and maintain an interest in global politics.

Availability: I am available in the evenings from 6 o`clock onwards during the week, and I am available most weekends.

Willing to travel: 5 miles

Experience: I have over 300 hours of tutoring and teaching experience in a range of subjects and ages: these hours have been divided between residential, home and online settings. I have helped students whose goal is exam-orientated, honing their exam skills and clarifying uncertain areas of the curriculum, but I have also worked on a long-term basis with students whose goal is to improve ability and develop confidence in a subject. I am a sociable person, and channel this into my tutoring to make it a comfortable environment.

During the lockdown period I moved to tutoring some of my students online, with the result that I am now adept at using online servers such as Bramble, Zoom and Teams, and skilled at creating clear and engaging digital resources.

My teaching experience is rapidly improving everyday, as I am now working as a tutor in a secondary girls school, teaching Maths and English to Year 11 students in groups. As my students` abilities vary tremendously, I have added to existing methods of teaching, explaining and assessing.
