I am a graduate of geography and biology, with 17 years` experience of work in Learning Support at York College, during which time I qualified as a counsellor and completed several specialist courses such as in dyslexia awareness.
I also have a TESOL certificate and have worked with students from various cultures, including tutoring English at Queen Ethelburga`s school.
My tuition is student led, aiming to closely follow student needs and pace. I have a good rapport both with students and parents. I am reliable, punctual and professional.
Availability: Available most weekdays, daytime and evenings for online tuition. Some weekend tuition also available if required.

Experience: I have been a successful private tutor since 1997 and offer English and maths from primary level up to GCSE. I also offer biology and geography up to A level. I have experience of working with students who are dyslexic or have other learning difficulties/special educational needs. Additionally, I have a specialism in ESOL. I tutor to all the main English exam boards.

Clare has really helped my twins through their English Language and Literature GCSE`s. She has really brought out their confidence in English, which has always been a challenging subject. This has been reflected in the improvement in their mock exam scores, and we are certain that their results will be better as a result of Clare`s coaching and guidance. Clare was always happy to help and researched the specific specifications that my children follow, ensuring that her support was specific to each of their respective exam boards (one of which was very obscure). She prepared for lessons and went out of her way to create question packs and agendas, which were extremely helpful. Clare`s manner meant that my children were engaged throughout each lesson, and found her to be approachable. She made sure to focus on each child`s specific areas of weakness and catered respective lessons accordingly. Overall, we feel lucky to have found Clare as she has definitely helped the children significantly improve their English skills.
