Information about Iona

I am about to start my final year studying biology at the University of Cambridge and I am keen to share my love for bioscience with other budding scientists. I went to school in Scotland so I am looking to tutor in National 5, Higher and Advanced Higher biology and chemistry, although I am more than happy to help pre-exam students as well. I am available to coach pupils until October. Since I will be tutoring online for the time being I can work with students from across Scotland.
Outside my degree I am keenly interested in Global Public Health and I am using time this summer to do a distance learning course in this field. I am an experienced debater and have represented the UK in the European Youth Parliament in Switzerland as well as being involved in Model United Nations for many years. I`m a keen cook and definitely take my love of experimentation from the lab into my kitchen, and to relax I enjoy music (I play harp and piano) and dance, with a particular passion for ballet, contemporary and salsa. Having grown up in the countryside, I love wildlife watching and I spend a lot of time outdoors.

Willing to travel: 50 miles

Experience: I have privately tutored Harp in the past and additionally I have worked a lot with children both in school and university where I have coached debating. Outside the education sector where I ran a youth group in my local area, as well as working as a demonstrator at Aberdeen Science Centre. I really hope that I will be able to share my enthusiasm and skills in science this summer, particularly in helping students to catch up in light of the ongoing disruption caused by the corona virus pandemic.
There is nothing more rewarding than being able to light a spark of interest in someone else, about a subject which you are passionate. I am keen to use a range of teaching styles including active learning and working in tandem with other interests of the student (for example creative arts) to make biology and chemistry approachable and relevant. If through this I can help others to not only succeed in, but also enjoy, their science education I would be delighted.
