Information about Dhillon

I am currently a final year mathematician at Durham University. I can engage and work well with children of all ages, and adults, to ensure they fulfil their potential by spreading passion and knowledge of my subject area in a professional and well mannered way.

My previous job as a part time LTA accredited tennis coach and my previous experience of mentoring students at my former school have enabled me to develop these key skills. I thoroughly enjoyed coaching children to develop their technique and it was a pleasure to witness their progress in matchplay and through exams.

My approach to teaching is quite simple. I will aim to highlight and build on key weaknesses in the subject area through repeated practise, however, I will mainly try to develop a solid understanding of key topics so that the student can go away and attempt questions with little to no help. I will also set questions of my own in order to really push the student to better their knowledge.

Since studying a maths degree at Durham, I have acquired a deep knowledge and understanding of the subject. I am predicted to receive a First at the end of the year. I received an A* in Maths and an A in Further Maths at A-Level and an A* in Maths and an A* in Further Maths GCSE, so my knowledge of the curriculum and exam skills is high.

Outside the real of academia, during the summer of 2019 I worked as a warden at Buckingham palace where I shared my knowledge and enthusiasm of art, history and architecture to people of all ages.

Overall, it is my passion for educating and supporting people in their ability to succeed which is why I believe I can be a great tutor.

Willing to travel: 5 miles

Experience: Regarding teaching maths to others, during my senior school years I participated in a `workshop` scheme where a select number of sixth formers gave time to help struggling lower-school students with Maths and English problems. This was both rewarding and informative, giving an insight into tutoring.

Moreover, during the summer of 2019 I worked as a warden at Buckingham Palace, which meant I had to impart my knowledge of art, architecture and history to visitors. It gave me a great deal of experience in explaining and sharing knowledge with people of all ages.

Outside the realm of academia my experience in teaching comes from the fact that I am an LTA accredited tennis coach and have taught children for several years at two tennis clubs in Watford. This taught me how to adapt my style of teaching to suit certain children.
