Hello!
My name is Hannah and I am a geography teacher working at a school in Surrey. I am passionate about the subject of geography as I believe it equips students with a range of transferable skills which can be utilised beyond the classroom and in later life. Geography is an extremely broad subject which studies the changing processes and patterns that we see across the world. For this reason, I believe it to be one of the most relevant subjects out there as it constantly adapts to respond to what is happening in the world around is. As such, geography is a subject to be enjoyed and shouldn`t be constrained to the classroom alone. I hope to incorporate some of this enjoyment, excitement and enthusiasm into tutoring sessions so students fully understand some of Geography`s awe and wonder!

Availability: Weekday evenings (Monday - Thursday) up until 7pm

Experience: I qualified as a teacher of geography in secondary education in 2018 having studied for a PGCE at the University of Cambridge. Here, I taught in two different placement schools across Cambridge and undertook written assignments to fully understand the theory behind education. Upon completion of my PGCE, I was awarded the Charles Fox prize for outstanding work in my final assignments and was one of only two students to win this prize. Prior to this, I studied for my undergraduate degree at Durham University where I achieved a First Class Honours in Geography (BSc).

Since qualifying as a teacher, I have been teaching at a state boarding school in Surrey and have just completed my second year there. I have taught across every year group from Year 7 to Year 13 and have also adopted pastoral roles. During my time as a qualified teacher I have developed resources for a variety of levels and across a variety of abilities to help students reach their potential. As such, 71% of A Level students received Grades A-B in the academic year 2018-2019 and 94% of students achieved Grades 9-4 at GCSE (52% Grades 9-7). I have been part of fieldtrips to the Isle of Wight and most recently Morocco which have all been run successfully. These trips supplement the work I did whilst studying for my undergraduate degree which took me to places like Portugal, Nepal and the Lake District. I believe I have a sound understanding of the subject and would be happy to support your academic studies.
