I have 2 years experience teaching English in a secondary school setting. I taught all ages within this setting from 11-16 including GCSE groups. I have experience in delivering quality teaching to a range of abilities ensuring that all students felt able to achieve and progress within my lessons. I listen to students, making sure that they have a voice and feel able to express their opinions to me. I feel this develops a safe environment where students feel confident to take risks and push themselves to achieve.
I have taught a range of different novels at KS3, including War Horse, Frankenstein, Hunger Games and The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night Time. Using these novels I explored how authors create plot line, characters, narrative voice and descri ption encouraging students to analyse language and structure and create their own pieces of writing using the novel as inspiration. I have also taught Shakespeare, something that I am incredibly passionate about to all year groups. Plays included: Romeo and Juliet, The Tempest and Macbeth. I encourage and support students through our experience of Shakespeare ensuring that they feel confident with the concepts and themes used throughout the play. Alongside plays and fiction I have taught language skills, looking at how to write articles, letters and speeches by engaging with current news stories and issues. At GCSE I have taught AQA exam board looking at: An Inspector Calls, Macbeth, A Christmas Carol and Power and Conflict Cluster.
