Information about Conor

Hello! I am a Second Year History student at the University of Oxford. I`m looking forward to helping students reach their potential and achieving the grades/outcomes they deserve.

My teaching approach is tried and tested. I try to nurture tutees to develop academically, questioning them and trying to get them to reach their own conclusions as opposed to rote learning and demanding immediate superficial improvement. I enjoy using extra (curricular and non-curricular) resources to help the learner see the subject in a new light. I have found this is a particularly effective method for exam success.

I think tutoring has to involve several different methods which suit the tutee`s needs and style. These should include debate, questions, mini-lectures, written tasks, reading, visual aids, kinaesthetic activities and more.

Availability: I`m very flexible in my availability. I`ll work around your/ the tutee`s needs, if circumstances permit.

Willing to travel: 3 miles

Experience: I have a lot of pedagogical experience, both paid and voluntary. As a paid tutor/ mentor for my College at the University of Oxford, I`ve worked with Sixth Form students, teaching them history, study skills, essay writing, academic skills and giving advice regarding Oxbridge applications and personal statements.

At a `conference` of 40 Sixth Form students, several of my fellow students and I were all allocated a group of 5/6 tutees that we were responsible for teaching over two days. The topic I chose was something brand new and unfamiliar to my group but, I am very proud to say, my group went on to win the `competition` for which my teaching ability and passion was praised by academics, the students and their parents.

I have been invited into schools and colleges to speak to students about Oxbridge applications (having sat on mock interview panels), historical skills and exam advice (revision, note taking, effective reading, analysis, evaluation and essay advice).
