Information about Wilson

Hi my name is Wilson.I live in Salford in Greater Manchester postcode M5 and am willing to travel up to 10 miles from my location. I teach GCSE physis, GCSE maths and Functional Skills Maths (14yrs and above). I am an electrical engineering graduate from the university of Manchester Metropolitan, currently pursuing teaching (maths) at the university of Bolton. I am a young, highly motivated and a very friendly tutor with excellent communication skills who believes that anyone can learn and achieve anything when they’re motivated and enthused.

At the moment i am teaching maths to ESOL learners. Since these are learners often with little to no English knowledge, I have learnt to use different tactics to deliver effective lessons even where there is a language barrier. I work hard to tailor the delivery of my teaching to the needs of my student; this may involve using games, videos, audios, whiteboard activities etc.Lessons must be fun and memorable I believe. My main goal in my mathematics-teaching world is to help my students raise achievements beyond their expectations. I believe that learning maths should be fun for both the learners and the teacher.

Tutoring for me is all about patience and practice; I relish the challenge of explaining something in various ways if the student is not happy with my first take; I enjoy the experience too, helping someone with something they do not completely understand is a rewarding experience in itself. I promote a Growth Mind- Set learning culture through every aspect of learning and understand that every learner has strengths and presents challenges in various forms. I encourage learners to learn through failure to face challenges and work towards victory. There is not such joy as succeeding through failure no matter how many times.

At this level, I believe Maths is all about practise and confidence. I will explain clearly and give methods of remembering to some of the rules to be applied in most of the topics easily that can be applied quickly to difficult questions. Easy going, clear, precise and takes time to explain. I aim for them to walk into the exam confident that nothing may come up which the methods we have practised together does not prepare them for.
My teaching will run over the concept and understanding of a topic before we then dive into relating questions. I aim for my students to be able to recognise when a question is demanding a tad more than is usually required, not to panic in these instances, and to apply a carefully constructed method to take all marks on offer.

My style also involves doing many past papers and making sure, you are able to answer every question on the past papers with a good understanding. I will also go through any content you struggle with to make sure you fully understand every detail. Working through past papers with you will give me an understanding of what you will need to work on and what topics you are good at.
