Information about Taia

I am currently an English Teacher of KS3 at an all-girls school in London. I am also the RSE, Leadership and Careers lead. I`m a creative and motivational teacher who thrives on that `Ah hah` moment.

I trained at the Institute of Education (UCL) and obtained a dual-honours degree from the University of Sheffield. I also have five A-levels in English literature (A), History (A), Sociology (A), Economics (B) and General studies (B).

As a founding member of a brand new school, I am familiar with creating, planning a sequencing curriculum to ensure that foundational knowledge is secure and consistently revisited. I am a creative teacher with lots of energy and I am interested in the meta-cognition that occurs in learning. I use knowledge re-call as a central aspect to my teaching which I monitor through regular mini quizzes to check understanding of key concepts. This ensures that students have a solid understanding of the knowledge involved rather than learning stylized or scri pted responses to questions. With this knowledge we can then work on drafting responses with critical hats and considering other interpretations and avenues which encourages the student voice and interpretation within literature. A students personal response to a text is incredibly important. Furthermore, the development of vocabulary in writing is important to ensure that students have the tools to express themselves.

Working as a teacher alongside tutoring is also beneficial because I am in touch with examining boards and undertake regular training, especially with AQA and I have experience teaching both the GCSE English literature and language curriculum.

I am looking forward to tutoring and spreading the love that I have for my subject.
