Information about Celia

I am an Oxford University graduate with a first class degree in History (BA), having been a first and second year Exhibitionist. I gained 11 A*s at GCSE (including top 5 in the country in Spanish), an A at Maths AS Level, and at A2 Level I gained 100% in History as well as A* in English and A in Chemistry.
As well as enjoying my academic studies, I am a keen singer and was a member of The Oxford Belles acapella group throughout my time at Oxford, recording an EP and taking two shows to the Edinburgh Fringe. I also rowed for my college and was a member of the mixed hockey team.
I have spent time travelling in Nepal and India, where I also taught in hugely deprived areas.

Availability: Weekdays, Weekday evenings
Intensive revision sessions essay writing masterclasses

Willing to travel: 4 miles

Experience: I have experience providing private tuition in History and English (literature and language) from GCSE to A2 Level, English as a foreign language (EFL), Oxbridge application support, and Maths tutoring up to KS2. I have provided tuition both in terms of syllabus content and essay/writing technique, with demonstrable results including the raising of an A2 grade from a D to an A.
Prior to this, during my gap year I spent 5 weeks teaching English in a non-government school in Kathmandu, Nepal, taking sole charge of classes of all ages and abilities, and of up to 40 students. I subsequently spent 2 months teaching in an IPER institute in Kolkata, India, again taking large classes of varying age and ability, but also smaller groups of 2-4 students, as well as individually tutoring those who fell both far above and below the class average. Here I taught Maths as well as English. These tutoring experiences were hugely challenging but as such were also immensely rewarding, and enabled me to hone the ability to target specific teaching levels and techniques, and detect students` strong suits as well as their weaker areas of study.
I have also spent a month living in Madrid with a family whose daughter I tutored in English (whilst improving my own Spanish). Whilst studying for my A Levels I spent 12 months volunteering at the local preparatory school as an individual maths tutor to Years 5 and 6.

Celia was helping my daughter with some last minute revision for her History iGCSE. My daughter has a short-term processing problem ( she gets 25% extra time in exams) which means she has difficulty understanding what a question is asking her and how to construct her answer to focus on answering the question asked. Celia was knowledgeable and patient and very good at breaking down the technique of answering the questionand built up a good rapport with my daughter. She was flexible about staying longer and focused on results.

Haven`t got the exam results yet but my daughter felt a lot more confident going into the exam and found the techniques that Celia had taught her very useful in answering the papers.
