Information about Ella

Hi, I`m currently studying Mathematics at the University of Bristol, so I have fresh eyes and energy infused into every lesson. Being a student allows me to pick up tips and tricks that make learning easier and know how to balance the fun and grind that comes with learning difficult topics. My knowledge of the curriculum is still fresh from recently finishing my A Levels and GCSEs in the last few years. I have tutored students from primary school to A Level, one-to-one and group work. My first session is used to gather how the student`s brain works, and build on their strengths; encouraging confidence so that the harder topics can be accomplished easily. I love maths, but I respect that not everyone shares my opinion, however, I believe this is due to the lack of confidence and belief in their own work. I think that if people are encouraged that mistakes are OK to make and focus on how far in their work they got before this mistake, they are more likely to want to attempt another question like it and build on this mistake. So I am here to make learning enjoyable and be a friendly warm face to help students through a challenging subject.

Experience: For the last couple of years, alongside my studies, I have been a full-time tutor; working with students doing GCSEs and A Levels as well as students with learning difficulties. Students have come to me from a range of backgrounds, some struggling to get an E and others who are just teetering on the grade boundary of an A*. I am happy to note that I helped these students get the grades they wanted, pushing them in every lesson whilst building confidence. My proudest achievement so far is helping a student on an F get a B in his A Level Maths, allowing him to be accepted into the University he wanted to go to. I am currently on the path to becoming a maths teacher, and genuinely love to learn Maths, but also learn new methods of calculation and learning from my students. Discussion is so important, because in maths there are usually multiple ways to do a question, and this discussion helps the student build confidence in their own way of doing things and their own intelligence.
