Ashwin

Hi there!
My name is Ashwin and I`m a 5th year medical student at UCL. I have an intercalated BSc in Policy, Communication and Ethics.

My ethos:
Once students grasp the foundations of a subject only then can more knowledge be added. I want my students to feel confident in their learning and move away from memorising.


The way I work:
My idea of teaching completely revolves around the way my students learn. I aim to establish early on whether my students learn best through reading, writing, listening, performing or drawing. I then focus on that method and use the other methods sparingly.

My lessons tend to be split into two halves. The first half we will cover new material, and in the second half we will go through questions and discussions to help retain that knowledge. At the start of the next lesson there will be a brief recap of the previous lesson with the student taking control of the discussion.

These lesson plans are flexible to the student`s targets depending on whether they have an upcoming assignment, exam or a particular area of focus.

My Qualifications:

I have a strong experience in sciences, maths and medical applications, which include the BMAT, UKCAT and interview practice.

Having been to Ilford County High School, a grammar school, I have great experience in the 11+ exams.

My qualifications include A*A*A* in A level Maths, Chemistry and Biology

My BSc in Policy, Communication and Ethics has a strong focus on the communication techniques of scientific ideas to the public, which are more than useful in a one-to-one tutor setting.

Availability: I prefer weekends and possibly some weekday evenings, the details of which can be worked out with prospective students

Willing to travel: 10 miles

Experience: I have taught maths and sciences to a variety of age groups ranging from primary school to A level.

I work with prospective medical students in a mentoring scheme called Target Medicine to help with their applications in terms of their personal statement, UKCAT, BMAT and interview practice.
