Information about Sarah

I am a caring, encouraging and creative tutor who holds full Qualified Teacher Status. I have taught a diverse range of children with a variety of needs. I have had considerable experience with Dyslexia, Dyspraxia, ADHD, Dyscalculia ASD, behavioural issues and children with English as an additional language. I also hold a qualification in teaching students with dyslexia. I am also able to formally diagnose dyslexia and hold the qualification to do so.

I have been fortunate in my teaching career as I have taught from Nursery to Year 13, both in the State and Independent sector. I have taught a range of subjects and have also been a Special Needs Co-ordinator.

As a Specialist Tutor I provide literacy, numeracy and study skills support for students of all ages with Dyslexia, Dyspraxia and related conditions. I am also happy to teach up to study skills and touch typing if necessary.

My expertise is in supporting students with SEN.These students have a number of conditions that co-exist and require highly specialised support. However, I do support students who have Dyslexia on its own. I am also happy to tutor students that do not have any special needs, but may just need an extra boost.

Every lesson is carefully tailored and planned meticulously to meet the needs of each pupil. Every lesson is monitored and evaluated to ensure maximum benefit.

I love working with young people and seeing them achieve their goals. I appreciate that each student is different so I always strive to ensure my tutoring reflects their individual needs, goals and learning style. I will seek to spark the student`s interest in a subject in the interim. I find that often the best way to do this is by highlighting its relevance outside of an academic context. Once that eagerness is there I believe confidence is the key to successful academic learning, so I am generous with praise and do all I can to ensure my students feel empowered. I also use precise assessment to identify weaknesses and target those areas for improvement. Using this method I have found students achieve the best possible results and gain maximum enjoyment from their subject.

I`m available to tutor in the daytime, evenings and at weekends. If you require help with home schooling I can offer assistance with that and I’m also available for lessons during the school holidays, including residential jobs.

I am also qualified to diagnose dyslexia. This takes between 2-3 hours and then you get a 20-30 page report of your child`s strengths and weaknesses. I am also qualified to write the reports for Disability Student Allowance.

I charge £45 for 50 minutes

Availability: After school and weekends - some day time slots available.

Willing to travel: Home Only

Experience: I am a qualified teacher having worked from reception to year 13. I have also worked as a SENCo and I currently work as a Specialist SpLD teacher helping students with Dyslexia, Dyspraxia, ADHD, ASD etc.

Sarah has been tutoring our son for 4 weeks. He has ASD, dyslexia, OT issues, high anxiety and struggles to focus. Needless to say studying English is a challenge for him! BUT Sarah has managed to engage him, lift his self esteem and he is showing signs of improvement.

Sarah has now been helping my son with his English for 6 months. Help with mind maps, exam practice and better revision tactics to help him due to his dyslexia. He has seen improvement in his grades and gained more confidence. Thank you Sarah we are very pleased with your help and more than happy to recommend you to others. Steve

My daughter is 9 and struggles with maths. Immediately she felt confident with Sarah. Sarah has recognised that my daughter has problems with her memory/processing which Sarah is helping to fully understand and the best way to help her.

Tutors Response :

Thank you very much for the very kind feedback. It is a pleasure working with your daughter and watching her grow in confidence.
