Information about Pratheba
I have over 7 years of tutoring experience (ages 5 to 18). I am a Qualified Primary Teacher with experience teaching in four Ofsted Outstanding Schools. I have undertaken a Mathematics undergraduate degree from a Russell Group University. I have worked with a range of children, including children with SEN and children for whom English is an additional language. Many students have come to me with an end goal (e.g. 7+, 11+,13+) and I would plan and work with them to achieve their goal. For this reason, I have vast knowledge in developing individual learning programmes for children.
With the recognition that different children have different strengths and weaknesses, different confidences and insecurities, I aim to tailor my methods to suit the individual needs of each student, rather than enforcing a rigid, pre-existing framework. I discuss goals with the learner and parents, assess to check for any missing gaps and then carefully plan and design activities that build upon knowledge. Concepts that are deemed difficult are broken down into small manageable steps in order for students to grasp. Through my lessons, I aim to nurture each student`s confidence in their own abilities, regardless of the achievements of their peers. I adopt interactive methods of learning which enables each student to create a newfound appreciation of the subject and an enthusiastic approach to learning. I strongly believe in the benefits of 1 to 1 attention as a means of instilling confidence and security for a child`s own academic self-confidence. This allows her/him to work purely for themselves rather than in competition with others as is all too often encouraged in the classroom. I have explored summative and formative assessment and the use of software to record and analyse the achievements of learners. I review progress with children and parents and give advice on practical strategies to support learners in the home. I am a non-smoker and have an enhanced DBS certificate.
