CATCH-UP / RE-ENGAGEMENT Enjoy your maths!
For young people in this covid catch-up period it is important that they are in a good place with regard to their maths. A lot of them will be starting new courses or schools, entering the final year of an important qualification or simply trying to make up for varying degrees of lost ground due to the challenging time in which we are living.
EXPERTISE plus "STUDENT AT THE CENTRE"
I am an experienced and knowledgeable teacher / tutor with a degree in mathematics from Oxford University. I have extensive expertise in teaching a whole spectrum of ages and abilities. Much more important than this, I thrive on encouraging individuals to have confidence and to achieve their very best.
I really enjoy building a rapport with all of my students. I get a real buzz out of seeing all individuals experience success in reaching targets and developing confidence in the way they tackle mathematics.
FEEDBACK Have a look
Before having a look at the programmes listed below, I would encourage you to read the feedback that has been left by families and young people with whom I have had the privilege of working.
In the first few lessons, I work with each individual to come up with a personalised approach and strategy that will deliver the desired outcome. These are some of the programmes that I have used successfully with students at different levels over the years:
A. Programmes to boosting confidence and raise attainment
Good for those who find it hard to engage with mathematics or who feel they under perform in certain aspects of the subject and /or under exam conditions.
B. Programmes focussed on particular topics or achieving a target grade / level
Emphasis on practical revision and exam techniques, as well as the content and skills of higher level topics. Good for students requiring specific grades at GCSE or A Level.
C. Programmes extending and nurturing able mathematicians.
Often exploring beyond the constraints of the exam syllabus to stimulate interest or develop a greater appreciation of the subject. In addition, through over-lapping with the next level of mathematics, equipping the individual with higher level skills in preparation for tackling more challenging mathematics, whether it be at Key Stage 3, GCSE, A Level or University.
Obviously every individual programme will be a mix of some or all of these elements.
The following spells out the levels at which these types of programmes can be put in place.
1. SIXTH FORM STUDENTS
a) AS level and A level Mathematics
b) AS / A level Further Mathematics
c) Oxbridge and University Entrance MAT and STEP preparation
2. GCSE STUDENTS
a) GCSE Pitched at different levels (4 6, 6 - 8, 8 - 9 etc.)
b) Extension: Aimed at iGCSE Further Maths or bridging / overlapping with AS Maths
3. KEY STAGE 3 STUDENTS
a) Targeted at basics skills or harder topics,
b) Extension: To stimulate and develop interest of able students
4. KEY STAGE 2 STUDENTS and SCHOOL ENTRANCE
a)+ b) As with Key Stage 3

Feedback For David (23)
David is a great tutor and has been tutoring maths to both of my eldest two children for over a year now. David has a really effective teaching style that brings out the best in them. My daughter is now in her final year of primary school and my son is in year 9 of secondary school and both are greatly benefiting from lessons with David. David is really flexible, and very patient and adapts his style to suit the child and really does help them aspire to their potential. I would definitely recommend David.
David is an amazing and flexible teacher. He shapes the lessons according to the individual students needs. He is able to discuss and explain topics to help deeper understanding and solve the harder and trickier problems as well as the standard ones.
David is an excellent Maths tutor, he brings a wealth of knowledge and experience. David helped my son to prepare for A-levels in Maths and Further Maths, Oxford Maths Admission Test (MAT) and Cambridge University entry exams (STEP I, II and III). They had face to face lessons as well as online sessions and covered a wide range of complex topics. Highly recommend.
My son has been working with David for a few weeks. The lessons have been going well. He is a great teacher and takes time to explain things well.
In the weeks leading up to A level exams, my son had a confidence crisis as his college grades started to dip. We contacted David who was able to identify his areas of weakness and then reviewed exam papers/questions and provided my son with useful exam techniques. We had hoped to push my son up one grade (to a B), but I am delighted to say he achieved an A * exceeding the grade required for his university place. I believe David`s tutoring gave my son the skill and confidence to fulfil his full potential. Money well spent and a good job done. Thank you enormously for your time, patience and efforts. We are truly grateful.
David taught my son A Level maths from February 2018 through to June 2019. Louis was clearly struggling with maths after one term and sadly disliked the subject intensely. We are waiting on A Level results so don`t know how successful this has been but what I do know is that Louis never moaned about the extra lessons with David. David`s approach engaged Louis and removed his negativity for the subject. I can`t thank David enough for keeping Louis on track! Without him the outcome would be very different!
David has made a very positive impression on my 9 year old son - who seems to enjoy his maths sessions tremendously. David makes maths fun and accessible for him. My son in only a few sessions has gained a wonderful understanding of the work covered. I highly recommend David.
I would recommend David as he is a very knowledgeable tutor who helped my son with his A level maths.
David is helping a group of home educated kids with their coursework for GCSE. He is their teacher rather than turor because he sets home learning also and helps them to work through their coursework. He is friendly, approachable and has a good rappor with the kids.
David is an amazing tutor, we have known him for 2 years now and we are very thankful to have found such a great teacher!
David uses an individualised approach with each student. He prepared my eldest son for his IGCSEs (Maths and Further Maths) and during the 2 years of lessons with David my son has constantly improved his test results and is now achieving very high results and receiving a 9 point prediction for Maths (highest grade). David will continue tutoring my eldest son for his A-Level Maths, for which we are very thankful.
David has also done an incredible job preparing my youngest son for his pre-tests at various schools and my son has now secured a place at Winchester as a result of all the work David has put in. My son will continue his lessons with David to prepare for his common entrance exams.
Thank you very much David for doing such an amazing job tutoring my sons!
David is an excellent tutor who is good at explaining maths and at helping to make it much easier to understand. He is friendly and encouraging and I would highly recommend him.
David is an excellent tutor who not only knows the content very well but also has experience with exam techniques and how to revise/learn maths modules effectively to get the best grades.
David is friendly and encouraging - I feel very confident that he will help my granddaughter with her maths problems.
David is a professional experienced teacher and clearly passionate about Maths. He has built a good rapport with my 18 year old son in just 3 lessons and my sons confidence and understanding has grown already.
It is evident he knows the A level maths syllabus throughly and he teaches in a friendly but relaxed way and takes the time to explain it clearly. He arrives promptly to each lesson and starts teaching immediately. I would highly recommend David.
Enthusiastic and very good at explaining
My daughter seems happy with her progress with David. Sessions are relaxed and helpful
David is a great Maths tutor, my son always had a smile at the end of the lesson, David always made sure my son was engaged and having fun in the lessons. He really helped my son with his Maths GCSE`S, he got a "8" in Maths. And I am very thankful for this.
David is a brilliant tutor. He teaches with passion rather than just doing a job.
My son has really enjoyed his lessons with David, and has gained a lot of confidence in topics he struggled with previously. Very happy with the progress my son has made with David.
Explains topics very clearly.
David is very helpful in helping his students achieve thier goals. He is very punctual and, if needed, would stay more than his allocated time to help me. I would highly recommend him.
My son`s grades have improved remarkebly since David started tutoring him. We are looking forward to him achieving beyond his target grades this June.
My daughter enjoys David`s lessons and feels she is gaining confidence in topics she previously struggled with. Very happy we found David, thank you.
