Information about Sourabh
I am a hardworking student who puts his passion and determination into everything I take up however many people and many opportunities within my life have made me the person I am today. The concept of tutoring I believe is very important in ones life not only in its contribution to academic life of the student but also contributing to the wider aspects of learning that can come from the mentor ship that I am willing to give. More than a job, tutoring is a role that I enjoy and I actively look out for situations such as pathways mentoring which I have been currently doing for 2 years where I can help students progress further with the knowledge and experience that I bring to this role. I am passionate about the opportunities that higher education has to offer and want to help to introduce and show students the extensive opportunities that are available.
Availability: Currently in the summer holiday period I am available most weekdays and weekends from 6am in the morning till 8pm in the evening.
Willing to travel: 3 miles
Experience:
2017-till present: Reach pathways maths mentor
I have the responsibility to mentor several targeted year 10 students on a weekly basis, these students have been selected due to the fact that they may not know enough about higher education therefore I act as a source of support as I myself have been through this process. I am also there to help them gain confidence not only in academia but also wider situations such as job and career prospects.
Although I have been assigned my targeted students, my focus is not limited there as I am also welcome to receive questions from the wider class and work collaboratively with them in order to make everyones learning experience better.
Having Several students requires various strategies to help them learn effectively and I believe that due to my experience, I have been able to individually tailor the support that I give to students based on how they learn best
I also kept track of the progress that my mentees have gone through via a online mentoring log that includes my comments on how the session went and what the mentee did in that session hence I have experience of managing student learning effectively by knowing exactly at what point they are with their progress
October 2018: Medsuccess volunteer
I interviewed potential medical students and gave them relevant feedback on what to do in a real interview. I was also given the chance to promote the medical school to the students and answer any questions that they had. As a medical student myself, it was very easy for me to give them a prospective look into life as a medic in leicester.
As a result of this role, not only was I able to give students my personal experience into medicine but also let them know about many vital things that it takes to be a medical student. I was able to enhance my communication skills and help students get the best advice possible
