Information about Emma

Hello! I recently graduated with First Class Honours in History from Keble College, Oxford University. Before university I studied History, Spanish and Philosophy and Ethics for my A levels and English to AS, achieving AAAA at AS and A*A*A at A2. At GCSE I achieved 10 A*s.

At University I did a wide range of modules, from eighteenth and nineteenth century revolutions to sixteenth century literature and politics, as well as a dissertation on legal insanity at the Old Bailey. I therefore feel highly comfortable tutoring across many areas and topics.

I have always been extremely passionate about History but I often struggled at school with my essay and exam technique and constructing my own distinct argument. I feel hugely privileged to have done history at such a prestigious university where I could hone these skills with the help of experts. I would love to help students to pass these barriers and develop a real love for the subject.

Willing to travel: 5 miles

Experience: I have tutored a number of students for GCSE, A Level and Oxford entrance exams. At University I acted as the history representative for my college, working as a support system for incoming freshers.

I also worked as a student counsellor last summer for the Oxford Royale Academy where I aided students from all over the world in a number of areas. At school I volunteered as a part time teaching assistant at Lena Garden`s Primary School and as a drama assistant at Ricards Lodge High School.

With history, I feel it is incredibly important to tailor teaching to a students specific goals and difficulties. Therefore I would initially want to work out which areas need specific attention and create lesson plans around that. Generally, this would entail a mix of primary source analysis, essay writing technique and ways to thematically breakdown course content to make it more easily digestible.

I really believe that in an informal setting such as tutoring, it is far easier to make the course fun and relatable and foster enthusiasm and confidence.
