Information about Max
I am a professional tutor with 4 years of experience teaching and tutoring students from the ages of 8 to 18. I specialise in History and Drama and preparation for university applications. While tutoring, I am also amassing legal experience in anticipation of a career as a barrister, having graduated in law from the University of Cambridge in 2016.
Outside of my academic interests, I am a keen sportsman, having played rugby for Cambridge University, and enjoy socialising with friends and going to the theatre whenever possible.
My approach to tutoring is all about perspective and individuality. As a tutor, I believe it is vitally important that I provide students with a different perspective from their teachers. Tutors have the benefit of more one-on-one time than teachers and so are able to approach any problems the student may have in a manner appropriate for them, without having to cater for a whole class. This can be done by contextualising the problem against a backdrop of the students interests or by tackling the problem in accordance with the students specific learning style.
I am aware that students have busy schedules and may have already sat through long days at school by the time I meet them for tutoring. It is very important, therefore, to keep students engaged and interested throughout the lesson. While this can usually be achieved by incorporating the students interests into the lesson, I am aware that some students work best with brief breaks or rewards. I prepare each lesson with this in mind and ensure the structure of the lesson is specifically tailored to each student.

Experience: Head Teacher: Oxbridge Summer Camps Abroad - Apr-Aug 2015:
I played a significant role in the organisation of an English Summer School in Beijing, China. I taught multiple classes each day and carefully planned each lesson to ensure they were engaging, varied and suited to the students in that class. I also planned large group activities for over 100 students each day.
Freelance Private Tutor - 2015 - Present:
I have tutored students in preparation for GCSEs, A Levels and university (including Oxbridge) applications. In the course of tutoring for university applications, I have provided feedback on personal statements and written work, conducted mock interviews and advised on choice of university and college, having researched admission statistics and other relevant factors.
